LOL, I definitely heard about this. Apparently a number of Buchla red panel synthesizer modules from the '60s, pretty rare mostly, had a "crystalline substance" on the undersides, and what happened in this case is the person who was refurbishing the module used a spray-on solvent to try to clean it off. Which gave him a very interesting nine hours, apparently.
