It's nice to be at the top of the table when the general consensus from the "experts" was that NYCFC as an expansion team would struggle out of the gate. Yet we've gone on the road against 62k and got a point and just throttled the defending Eastern Conference champions.

We've got a long way to go and plenty of difficult matches to come, but what's happened clearly leans towards the "best case scenario" coming into the season.

I for one am very pleased with the way the team is playing this early. Exceeded my expectations by a lot so far. Even the defense with Wingart and Hernandez have been very solid. The mid field is jiving pretty nicely and are getting the ball to the strikers in good spots. But what I am most encouraged about is the fact that in both games, our first halves have been awful and yet we went into half time and made some great adjustments and came out flying in the second half. That is a trait of a good team and a well coached team. You wouldn't expect anything else from Jason Kries.

I'm calling a foul for you praising the defense without mentioning THE HUMAN WALL JOSH "TIM HOWARD WHO?" SAUNDERS

Your right my bad. Saunders has been amazing and certainly is the biggest reason why we have only allowed 1 goal, and even at that, should have been 0 goals allowed and 6 points. But yes your right, Josh Saunders has met and way exceeded my expectations. I never thought he was real good to be honest but seeing him live in Orlando and now vs NE. He has done an amazing job and I hope he can continue his great play.

#HotTake alert - I think the minute Meara is healthy and fit, he starts over Saunders. I've been wrong often before, but my eyes tell me Saunders isn't a starting quality goalkeeper in MLS.

A) I think it's really hard to lose your job when you've bled for the team and been up for Save of the Week twice now, only conceding one goal off of a flukey deflection. Kreis must absolutely love Meara for that to happen. Sadly for Meara, most coaches don't bench goalies who are playing well (and Meara knows this already)
B) What mistakes have you seen in these two MLS matches? I was worried during the preseason, but I haven't seen anything since.

I agree and, despite many of us wanting Shelton to start, you have to admit that Kreis has gotten every substitution exactly right. This week Mullins scored within a minute or two of coming on and Shelton drew the red from Gonçalves after like 20 seconds.

Yes, he's done a great job with his substitutions. I would like to see him start Shelton in the next game just to mix it up to see what kind of a return he gets.

I think that's also down to them being better players than the ones they're coming on for.
