Will make CL travel more difficult potentially for teams travelling to the UK, UK fans travelling abroad, etc. Even brought up Messi potentially not being able to play in England due to the tax evasion charges against him in Spain. It is presumed he would get a pass due to the charges not being something that could damage UK security, but an interesting point nonetheless.
Again, I just felt it was an interesting article that brought up a lot of different scenarios that could play out whether there is/isn't a deal in place by the end of the month. Even the PL could see a decline in player interest due to taxes, age restrictions, and squad selection. La Liga has a "no more than 3 players from outside the EU" which would affect Real Madrid, namely Bale (Wales-UK). May be a get out of jail free card for him though by the time it goes through.

second red was harsh if for the handball. if it was for talking a lot of trash to the ref, then i'm ok with it. ajax players were all over him - even bumping into him. he should have sent more off. i don't like the whole players rushing refs thing that seems to be the norm these days. refs need to start sending players off. captains are the only ones who have the right to go speak to the ref. otherwise, deal with the call on the field.
Agreed. I thought it was for dissent. I was watching with my dad and before he even showed a card I said he ought to card a player as it was getting out of hand. They surrounded him for at least a full minute. One of my least favorite things. Get on with the game he won’t change his mind.
I really would like to see a harsh crackdown on that crap. Give anyone but the captain a yellow for getting in the face of the ref. And I wouldn't give the captain much leniency either in regards to being belligerent.
Yeah, there would be a rough transition of players receiving a lot of yellows and perhaps ending with some sending off, but eventually it would level off.
all they have to do is make a league wide announcement that no players are permitted to discuss decisions with the ref except the captain. any other players confronting the ref after a decision will be given a yellow card at the ref's discretion. then let the refs start carding people left and right as they have been warned with the announcement. as you said, it would probably be bad at the beginning but level off. it needs to be done. it's not professional and it wastes time. you don't see this kind of mobbing of the ref in any other sport.
I'd love to see this happen as long as it's clear that it's because seeing players mob the referee is a waste of time and it's an ugly example to be setting for people. I'd be bothered to see the league supporting the often amateurish decision making of PRO officials
Does anyone really disagree with the second yellow for Blind? That seemed like a no brainer to me.
As for Veltman - I do think a yellow was harsh for that handball. His hand was fairly near the body - though not enough to avoid a penalty.
Let's also remember that it takes 2 yellows to create a red. I don't know what their original yellows were for, but presumably both players had transgressed and then (in one case, at least) didn't adjust his behavior enough to avoid the sending off.
ETA: On the penalty, I also think the ball took a slight deflection off the first defender, making it even harder for Veltman to avoid the hand ball.

But can you imagine the excitement created when both teams are reduced to 7 a side on a full field?!? It’d be amazing to watch the refs have to huff it back and forth to keep up. I'm not sure if that's true or not? If you got like 10-15 minutes off the field it could still really hurt your team? In this instance though I was more referring to not really liking to see red cards for dissent that can real change the whole game.
Salzburg's only victory today was a moral one. Gave as good as they got from the defending champs. Just not as skilled or poised in the final third. Each team with 7 shots on goal.
Also - it's hard to criticize the Salzburg goalkeeper after so many great saves, but on each of the 2 goals, he came off his line rashly and left the net open.
