USOC - April 14 - Westchester (Away)

I have sympathy for this view from the standpoint of revenue to the lower tier club. But at the same time for a lot of those players a match like this could be one of the few (only) chances they have to play a match in a larger stadium. I mean, none of the SSSs in the US are like walking out onto the field at Wembley, but it still has to be a pretty cool feeling for one of these clubs to play at RBA or someday at Etihad Field.

(I can't remember what our place is called. Field? Point?)

Except a stadium is nothing without the fans and we're never selling out Etihad Park on two-weeks notice for a USL League 1 team. Last night's event was far better because they sold out Memorial Field for the first time in their history and had what they're calling the largest-attended sporting event in Westchester County history. That event was far better in Mount Vernon than it would have been in Etihad Park.

I would wager that even on a USL League 1 team most of these guys have played in pretty big games/stadiums during their college days or across their development path. To get to the point where you are getting paid to play soccer even in the USL you are still likely in the top 1% of players in the country.

My daughter and I went last night. Had a really fun night. Not enough concessions. We sat in VIP and they had passed cheesesteaks. Not nearly enough food.

But we had a great time. Will go again.

Actually though Magno stunk last night. Second best player on the field was the former RedBull kid Kyle Evans. He scored that beautiful second half goal for them.

Our midfield was NOT good.

post game interview with Jansen

Nico got some minutes because he was pestering Jansen to get some minutes since Monday, so he decided to let him on for 5 minutes at the end.

Shore apparently had preseason issues, which prevented him from competing for midfield spots more. Don't recall hearing about that but could explain why he's not seeing more minutes. But also, with Keaton back full time, we all knew Shore's minutes would be limited. He's such a baller though and I wouldn't be upset to see him rotate into games more to keep Keaton and/or Oneil fresh.

I don’t know where the Shore minutes come from when Perea is back. Perea is our best midfielder. Keaton is back in form.

I have mediocre opinions on O’Neill. But he’s got a terrific motor.

Saw LionNYC again yesterday from afar. One of these days I’ll have to reintroduce myself.
