USOC - May 7 - Pittsburgh (Away)

View attachment 13901

This is a prediction, and the guy at the 10 is the biggest question mark. If he can’t go, then add Wolf to the Starting XI and either he or Fernandez plays in the midfield.
We basically had the same predictions except I still thought Maxi C was injured. Knowing it was just cramps, absolutely have him in there instead of Wolf.

I also had question marks where you have Shore and Baeira. Thinking more about it, I think Shore probably does go. If we didn't have Aiden on the horizon, then I'd still be wary of putting too many miles on him. With Aiden, yeah, I think you start Shore.

As for Baeira, I just have no idea among all the young players we have listed as defenders who rates at RB.

i know we're gonna rotate and all, but I am kind of excited for this game. maybe cause it's a cup tournament and it's a perfect situation for a roster like ours to get some silverware? either way, i'm ready for some USOC! glad they will be properly streamed games too.

Have they improved the broadcast quality at all? In previous years, it's been like watching a high school football game.

not so far. definitely amateurish broadcast. but i think it also depends on the stadium being played in.

This is where I sympathize with MLS for scaling back its participation in the Open Cup. I've yet to see an argument as to why MLS should participate in the Open Cup that includes a reason that it's beneficial for MLS. If US soccer wants MLS to take the open cup seriously at the very least they could try to up the quality of the tournament starting with the broadcasts.

I don't think it's a big deal. It's not much different in other countries for these cup tournaments. the smaller stadiums just don't have the resources to put in the nice cameras in the stadium and there just isn't enough viewership/attendance to justify sending camera crews to each stadium either.

I personally like USOC. probably true that participating doesn't benefit MLS too much, but as the top league in the country, it should be their responsibility to participate.

That's the thing, MLS is a business, and every argument for their participation is based on some version of, it's tradition, it's important to lower leagues, or I just like it. So, MLS is expected to participate out of charity or obligation? Why is it MLS's responsibility when US soccer barely invests in it?

Now they have put the games behind a paywall of yet another streaming service they want me to sign up for and yet they have done nothing to improve quality.

they also have the streams for free on youtube and ussoccer.com. at least they did for the earlier rounds.

I don't see any info about free streams, MLS, US Soccer, and goal.com all list Paramount+, but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. If they streamed the early rounds for free and are dumping the MLS games behind the paywall, that's even worse.

yea you're right. looks like starting this round, they are not streaming for free. that's pretty shitty. they used to ALL be free streams didn't they?

It's also on CBS Sports Network (315 on Spectrum).

showed up with a C squad and got cupset.

highlights were that shore is a baller. kid is gonna be a star if he keeps improving and gets creative vision.

haak solid. perea lookin lively but obviously needs more minutes.

the rest - meh as expected.

that was so extremely embarrassing that I can't even begin to.... sigh.
Disagree. The B/C team was the better team. Lost due to a mistake by our 4th centerback. Fernandez’s miss didn’t help either, but he was actually more lively in the center than he often is on the wing.

The team didn’t prioritize the game and it paid the price. Props to Pittsburgh. Lee deserves criticism - but not sure a glorified exhibition is primary evidence.

Embarrassing loss, and it shows the lack of depth we have. We still were the better team but couldn't convert when opportunities arose. I thought we improved after going down to 10. Of course, Bakrar is the one who gets beat on the goal. Perhaps Gray should have been positioned better.

Every year I get excited for Open Cup and almost every time, we shit the bed.

Meh, just kept us from the inevitable 3-0 pasting at Red Bull, er Sports Illustrated Arena that happens all the time in the Open Cup.
