MLS H2H league for "points"

Winner $100
2nd place $50
Last place $40
Cup winner $60

Right?!?!

More seriously, Accam was autosubbed to the bench because he was apparently hurt (which I didn't know until it was too late anyway, but I digress). Everyone else on the bench is $6m or less, so I'm not sure I follow that part of FredMertz FredMertz's comment.

Which is not to say that my team isn't terrible. Considering using my wildcard this week, just not sure how to go about fixing things yet.

My lack of fantasy experience is going to make me sound dumb...

Question: On double match weeks, both games count towards the player's aggregate, correct? Ex. Player's performance results in Round 4 are 5 points in first game and 6 points in second game; therefore, player's score for round is 11?

Correct -- but I wouldn't move heaven and earth to add double game week non-superstars (especially defense and goalie) as they sit one of the games a lot more often than they do in the premier league double game weeks.

The thinking is: a number players slightly above the absolute minimums takes salary out of your starting lineup and puts it on the bench, for players that are unlikely to play and if they do, unlikely to score more than 2-3 points. Over the course of the season, you're best off putting it all in the starting lineup and grabbing the handful of minimum-cost players who start. There are always a few.

For example, why have Devon Sandoval at 6.0 when you can just as little production from Dominique Badji at 4.8? Why have Woodberry getting you zeros for 5.0 when you can have someone get you zeros for 4.0. Why get zeros from Flores @ 5.8 when you can get zeros from Acosta for 4.0?

I just saved you 3.2 million, which you could use to turn Diskerud into an elite MF. Also Dempsey is well overpriced, especially without Martins to take attention from him. Igbo and Zizzo are also taking up a fair amount of salary that could be used better elsewhere.

So I totally goofed with my impatience. Decided I would take the 4 point hit and make 3 transfers with several guys out for international duty.

Then realized today that I had several others on my team out for international duty, including 2 of the transfers I just made....so I decided to end up using my wild card this week. I'm guessing I'm still taking the 4 point hit?

Either way, I've got a lot to learn about this.

No. If you use the wildcard there is no points hit.

This week is not a traditional DGW with a mid-week game. There is no reason to think your starters wont play both games. Even international duty on Tuesday wont rule them out of a game the following weekend.

Got it. We agreed on what I was trying to do, you were saying I could have gone further/done it better.

Ok, I have a spare minute before I have to start drinking in costume for the Jewish holiday of Purim, so let's get this weekly roundup back on the right foot. The results and standings are below, but let's see how we got there.

H2H week 3.jpg

Old-School-vs-New-SchoolA.jpg

Let's take the Sir Mix a Lot approach and start on the bottom. Our first matchup was joe joe vs Sabo Sabo as, Joe tried his best to get out of the cellar. Unfortunately for Joe, he still thought he was playing MLS Fantasy 2015 edition, starting the likes of Dempsey, Finley & Zizzo, who combined to give him 8 points this week, which makes sense since they all are averaging a combined 2.6 points per game this season! With Sabo staring 2016 standouts Diaz, Morales, Villa and Meyers, and like a cassette tape versus an iPod (are those even outdated now?) Joe didn't even stand a chance and fell to Sabo 47-63.

SoupInNYC SoupInNYC was also trying to get into the win column last week vs S sbrylski . At least he put up more of a fight. Soup actually had a very strong backline of Mataritta, Goodson & Shea, with Vincent ready to autosub in after the goodson fiasco last weekend. He even had some great choices like Polster and Tchani in the midfield an Urutti up top. S sbrylski had the Diaz/Morales midfield combo that's been butter this season. With all that said it came down to Sunday with both teams tied at 56. Could this be the week Soup gets off the schneid??? Unfortunately this is neither horseshoes or hand grenades and close wasn't good enough. Soups 4 points for Gio and Vincent autosub gave him 10 more points to get to 66, but S sbrylski has Gio as captain for 8 points and Redding on autosub for 15 points and total of 71, narrowly edging out the victory to move to 2-1 and leave Soup still searching for that first win.

Damn, I have to get my daughter out of the house! I'll just have to highlight some more matches next week, sorry if I didnt get to yours. Big matches this week as joe joe now has to face S sbrylski to get his first win & Soup has to go up versus FredMertz FredMertz, neither easy matchups. The kid finally lost and our newbie Jack Jack is somehow undefeated, still not totally sure what he's doing! Good luck everyone in the next round!!! mgarbowski mgarbowski I'm gunning for you!

My "top of the line" Ipod is now on its last legs, wont keep a charge for more than an hour and can hold less music than my phone, but its plugged into my computer and working right now.

I am coming back this week. If there aren't any surprises, looks like an 18 game week with no penalty.

Sorry guys, no big rundown this week. Just got too busy. Standings and matchups are below. Jack Jack stays the only undefeated team and in 1st place. JayH JayH also stays close on his trail. Sabo Sabo jumps up the standings to 3rd. And our favorite 10 years old took a bit of a drop after his loss to Jack, and now I face him in a matchup that could feel bittersweet. I improve my standings by tossing a poor 10 year old into the gutter and breaking his fantasy confidence. How will I sleep at night? Oh, and joe joe is still keeping the Sacko spot warm. Good luck this week everyone! Don't sleep on the deadline!

Some interesting score lines going into Sunday. Might have some significant movement at the top of the table.

You gotta love the random vagaries of Head to Head leagues. Based on points, I'm currently ranked in the top 2% of all players in the entire MLS league. I'm number 22 among all fans who list NYCFC as their favorite team, and 6th in the basic Forums league.
But in our little league with just 12 players I'm sitting in 4th place, with only 4 wins against 3 losses. Meanwhile, the guy in first with 7 wins in 7 tries has exactly one point more than I do overall, while someone who beats us both by almost 40 points has just 5 wins and is in third place. And, he lost this week to me, even though he had the second highest point total in the league for the week. That's just bad luck. Sorry, not sorry, Jason ( JayH JayH I'm guessing).

But like I said, that's what gives H2H leagues their edge.

PS: How come MLS does its own standings in W-L-T format but the fantasy league uses W-D-L ? Can they pick one and standardize?

Ha, no worries. Right now I'm 44th in the country, out of almost 30k, which is pretty cool, and a point out of the top of the Forums pool. Hopefully it will continue.

Back from vacation, somehow managed a win and a tie without touching my team. Yay.

Are we going to do the cup tournament? Have we discussed that yet?

I believe everyone was in favor of the Cup Tournament and that it was going to occur mid-season. No official start time was announced. Perhaps it should start round 19 when everyone gets unlimited transfers?

Also, we should formally agree on the final 'points' structure before the season progresses too far. Most Points Scored, League Champ, 2nd place in League gets money back, Cup Champ?

Sorry guys. Personal stuff kept me pretty busy last couple of weeks. I'm in Miami now for Passover. I'll set up the cup when I get back.

Some updates:

1. Cup will be 3 groups of 4. Teams will play each other once. Top 2 teams and 2 best 3rd place advance to playoff bracket. So should take a total of 6 weeks spread thoughout the season.

2. I've made an agreement with the HoO fantasy league commish (I used to run that league) and the top 4 teams in each of our leagues will meet next season in a champions league cup. Maybe down the road we can include more H2H leagues...

I'll try to do an quick update tonight if the wife and kid fall asleep.
