Same Boring Frank Lampard Thread 2.0

I know a lot of bad press has been posted about Frank on this forum since he was tied to MCFC for the rest of the season but I doubt very much it was of his choosing.

Good thing is that Frank has hardly started for MCFC since the decision was made so should be firing on all cylinders when he hits MLS.

Given a fresh start and guaranteed playing time I have a feeling Lampard will become firm favourite within no time and all his misdemeanours will soon become a thing of the past.

Looks like a PR exercise that could go drastically wrong.

And it will only go wrong because the media are telling you what to do, why boo somebody that hasn't pulled on a shirt yet but could turn out to be a player that changes NYCFC's season when it comes to the crunch.

At the end of the day he'll be playing in the blue of NYCFC in a couple of months, welcome him with open arms and give the bird to the media.

Frank could make or break our season, let's not give the opposition any advantage whatsoever.

Answered your own question.

So when Lampard is shown on the jumbotron is this also part of the marketing gimmick to continue showing everyone that MCFC is the real priority?

Because if the uniforms, playing at Yankee Stadium or keeping him at MCFC longer then necessary aren't than I don't know what is.

See I have trouble really being mad at him because I honestly believe that the vast majority of professional athletes operate almost entirely out of self interest. They care about getting paid and a lot have competitive streaks so they do try hard and care about winning once their out there playing (not to mention playing good can mean more money) but the idea that most of them care if their out their in a New York shirt, or a Chicago shirt or Manchester or Paris etc. in the same way us supporters care about our specific clubs, cities, etc. is pretty much fantasy land IMO.

Your not from NY. That shit matters here. Look up David Wells crying at his signing and putting on a yankee hat that was worn by Babe Ruth. I'm 52 and still get goose bumps when entering a NY Stadium or arena. Most yankee fans I know hate Clemens but love Boggs. Clemens just wanted the ring and was still an ass after he got it. Boggs riding the horse after the WS victory still brings a tear to my eye like the Thurman Munson video. Villa loves being here and it shows and even though he got here late in his career he has already earned beloved legend status among the fans. If you play here and show you love NY there's almost no limit to the love showed back to you, not to mention the endorsement deals

I don't think it's a living in New York or outside of it thing. I think it's an emotion VS logic thing. I'm not much of a baseball fan but I'm pretty sure David Wells went on to play for your arch rivals from Boston after getting teary about playing for the Yankees just like it's easy to pander and kiss the badge if you want to manipulate the fans. To me it's like Seinfeld said Your root for the laundry a player would have to do something heinous to be wearing the right shirt and still have my boo him. Ray Rice or Ched Evans level crap. I think Lampard is going to be here for the important part of the season and help us win games. Do I like him as much as Villa or Mix personally ? Probably not but nothing to be accomplished by booing him in my eyes.

Amen to that. With that being said, fuck FL. Let's win it tonight.

David Wells played for 9 different teams in his career (twice with the Yanks). Yes, he was about getting the best deal he could, but he genuinely loved playing for NY. He also has a Babe Ruth tattoo.

You are 100% correct. For a pro player, this is simply a job. And that is precisely as it should be.

Of course the professional player is required to give his all to his current employer; but the idea that he should share the passion of fans is, as you have pointed out, a fantasy.

A fan can love his/her favourite team without ignoring this fundamental distinction between a fan's viewpoint and a player's viewpoint, without projecting onto players a set of wholly inappropriate expectations.

I, for one, am not under any illusion that Lampard or any other player cares about NYCFC as much as I do. However, that fails to explain or justify the fact that we as a fan base were lied to about his contract situation by CFG, MCFC, NYCFC, Frank's agent and Frank himself. And it certainly doesn't excuse Lampard's bullshit press conference, interviews and appearances in NY last summer and his lies about "wanting to be here".

He got an offer of a better job; and his contractual status with CFG allowed him to accept it. Anyone else would have done exactly the same thing.

All of the "blame" (such as it is) should go to the NYCFC management, which failed to anticipate the possibility that Man City would want Lampard for the full season. If NYCFC had from the beginning announced him as a summer arrival, there would have been no controversy whatsoever.

Lampard hasn't played that much since January, and it's unlikely that Man City will win catch Chelsea at this point. If only he could leave early.

Yes, NYCFC management should have known MCFC were a bunch of dicks and were likely to pull a dick move. We agree on that.

Why would NYCFC announce him as a summer arrival when they signed him to play from day 1? Do you realize how fucking stupid you sound right now?
