Authentic Jersey

Reportedly they've reworked it and moved the awful blue moon overlay to a slightly less visible position on the arms:

That looks more like what someone posted a pic of on Twitter:

I knew I had seen another version, either way that overlay is dumb. This would be a decent kit without it.

I really like this featuring the blue moon. It's the patch badge which really fucks everything up. Just sew on the badge like every other club in the world.
It kind of stylistically matches your avatar.

I would really love a kit like this for us, but instead of a blue moon, it's a blue skyline. This was from the 2015 NBA All Star Game fashion jersey. I wouldn't expect a design like this, but it's definitely cool.

Oh man. I could see a blue skyline silhouette. But these NBA jerseys are crazy busy.

Falastur Falastur OH no!Are you saying that the design is changing in the jersey? I just bought the blasted jersey and pay extra to get it personalized. This is... , this is...I just feel like cursing like a sailor

That would make for a cool third kit. I really hope we get a nice third kit next year that truly embodies something New York.

The simplicity of the MCFC jersey is something I hope we adopt going forward. Like I said before, I really hope Nike takes up the next MLS contract.

And then they would have us wear the same shit with just a different badge. How cool and unique!
That blue moon away looks like blue waffle residue on a jersey.

The new Roma jersey does something like that. A very subtle areial image of Rome. Awesome.

The most awesome thing about that jersey is the lack of a sponsor. I've resigned myself to the sponsor being the largest item on the shirt, and generally keep my mouth shut about it, but it's absence here makes this a classic, clean, stunning jersey. Is this just a mock-up or are they truly sponsor free on the jersey?

A little research and I can answer my own question. Roma has been without a sponsor for a few years now. It seems they are asking for a lot of money and would rather get none than lock themselves into a low rate. Plus they want to sell a combined package of shirt sponsor, stadium name, and maybe more. Until something changes it makes for some stunning looks.

And by the way, I would pay a premium of at least $50 per jersey to be able to buy team jerseys without the sponsor on them. NYCFC without Etihad? Maybe $75. In a heartbeat.
A bad jersey sponsor logo will absolutely keep me from buying a jersey even from my favorite teams. Fortunately I find the Etihad logo reasonably tolerable.

I can't be certain. The away hasn't been confirmed by the club so I could be wrong. I'm just responding to rumours on the internet.

Thing is, the sponsors probably put money down to demand the opposite - that clubs not offer to sell shirts that don't have their names on them. If I'm paying tens of millions a year in sponsorship then I darned well want every single replica to have my company name on it and screw the fans if they think differently.

That's the corporate world we live in.

It could definitely be worse...

But, quality of the sponsor aside, tbh I've become so used to sponsors on jerseys that an un-sponsored kit usually looks sad and empty to me. That also may have something to do with the fact that the un-sponsored teams in the MLS are not usually good teams like Roma holding out for the best deal, they're usually shitty teams that no one wants to put their logo on.

Some clubs (Celtic comes to mind) sell shirts without the sponsor. Is that because the sponsor is an alcoholic beverage company?

I know that Everton is not allowed to print the Chang logo on youth jerseys because it's a beer company. Also for Euro competitions teams have to alter or remove alcoholic sponsors depending on the host country.
