2021 Schedule Thread

We pretty much know what NYCFC is this year: a very talented but flawed team whose results are below their level of play. The team is good enough to make the playoffs, even close to the top, but will inevitably one of the following will happen:

1. They will play on the road in the playoffs and will play well but yet lose because they are total garbage on the road.
2. Some key player will be missing for the playoff game and their replacement will not be up to par and their opponent takes advantage of it, causing the team to lose.
3. The opposing team’s best player(s) will go supernova and deliver while the NYCFC “star” players come up just a bit short.
4. One of the regulars makes some catastrophic mistake which causes NYCFC to lose.
5. A critical ref error goes against NYCFC which changes the game and causes NYCFC to lose.

out of these possibilities, i am ok with #3. if that happens, then so be it. the better team won that day.

i still have faith we can put together some kind of run.

Yankees are making the playoffs and will go just far enough that YS won’t be ready in order to move the late October games back to YS. Book it.

The Yankees' odds of making the playoffs went way up after that sweep of Boston, at Fenway - pretty amazing.

Still, the schedules do not favor the boys in Pinstripes. The Yankees have to play at Toronto for 3 games and then host the top team in the AL - Tampa. Meanwhile, the Red Sox get 3 games against the worst team in the majors (Baltimore) and then 3 against a team 27 games below .500 (Washington). After hosting the Yankees, Toronto gets 3 games against Baltimore too.

Add to the above the fact that both Boston and Toronto have the tiebreaker over NY, meaning that either would host the Wild Card or an elimination game if tied with the Yankees.

So, the Yanks have work to do.

Playoffs	All potential NYCFC home playoff games will be played at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees have always been like this, they need like a week after they are out to open the field again during the playoffs. More likely “additional playoff changes make field conversion more difficult”

For the Yankees to play Game 6 or 7 at home, they would have to (1) make the World Series and (2) play a National League team with a worse record. Right now, the only teams with a worse record that are above the playoff line are St. Louis & Atlanta.

Well, it will be 9 regular season matches at Yankee Stadium this year. The majority of poll voters got it right.

What I find unbelievable is considering how much we complain about NYCFC’s road form and how they stink on the road, they finished this year with 17 points in 17 road games, good for third in the East (and generally what you strive for in MLS, a point per game on the road).

It was strange how they did it, not winning for months on the road, but statistically they are right where about you’d want to be.

It was strange how they did it, not winning for months on the road, but statistically they are right where about you’d want to be.

And for the entire season, a win next week gives them 3rd in the East, and potentially as high as 2nd. This was nowhere near as bad a regular season as many NYCFC fans were exclaiming it would be. Especially in a year we thought, in March, would be a rebuilding year.
