General MLS Discussion

This looks just a wee bit funky.

Further details in the Indianapolis Business Journal:

Obviously bias as an RSL fan. But I figured all of you here would enjoy Philly losing their first home game in 13 months.

As a New Yorker trapped in the Philly suburbs, I can attest that sadly Vince is a fairly accurate representation of most serious Union Doop fans I encounter. I honestly have had more interesting free-flowing conversations with most random Red Bull fans I have met than Union fans. A Redbull fan interaction usually starts with a mutual good-natured acknowledgment of the dislike we share for the other person's team followed by a realization that it's always nice to find another soccer fan to talk to and a transitions into an interesting conversation.

Most union fans react with outright appalled disgust at even the thought of someone rooting for NYCFC followed by them airing all their complaints about our small pitch oil money franchise. They then transition to their never-ending list of grievances of all the ways the Union has been slighted over the years by teams in MLS. I even try going the complement route and telling them the production of their academy has been extremely impressive or Andre Blake is the best goalkeeper in the league. Almost nothing works it's like they are so disgusted by the idea of an NYCFC fan that they can never get past it and have an interesting conversation.

I work from home and have two young kids so my weekends are often spent trapped at playgrounds and kids' birthday parties. Soccer is by far my favorite sport so in a land of constant NFL and MLB conversations finding a soccer fan to talk to is probably an unreasonably exciting encounter for me and I always come away disappointed when the conversation goes nowhere with a Union fan because they can't get past what team I root for.

This is up there with Petke's printer.
Vermes brought a tablet out to his press conference; I think he was trying to make a point about an offside call. Birthed 1,000 memes.

And what's great about it is that play was determined to be onside by that offside modeling twitter account.

I understand if Vermes was still upset with the call in this moment, but if you're gonna go all the way down this route of bringing a tablet to show the play, you better be fucking right.

The boo birds are out in force tonight in Subaru Park. Once again, Doop is convinced they're being done dirty. Never mind the fact they've been playing like crap. And against the Sounders, of all people.

Be prepared on your next trip to the playground if this holds up. They'll be behind us and level in games played. (Neener neener.)

The Reddit game thread for the Union-Sounders match is filled with 2 of the most whiny entitled fan bases all bitching about the refs and convinced they’re getting the short end. Real popcorn time. It takes a heart of stone not to laugh at this goal:

#doop

that handful of sounders fans celebrating are gonna need security escort to get home.

Yeah, can’t blame yourself for that. It’s pointlessly confusing.
My feelings on the table are well-known, and I normally avoid the table on the MLS site like the plague. I just happened to be on there checking on something else. (The ESPN table is good, uniform across all leagues and easy to scan.)

Anyway, the dread Union have fought their way back into this one. We need the Sounders to put their foot on this snake, dammit.
