RBNY Postgame

Just got home from the match. Wow, that was awful. We basically had no defense, as others have said. They did their high press against our playing sloppily out of the back and and roasted us. I don't even think Saunders was that bad as it didn't look like there was anything he could've done for most of those.

Two good things though. One was Harrison. Really liked what I saw. Speed, energy, really good. Don't think he got a single hair on his head onto any ball that came near him in the air though but whatevs. The other good thing was that because we were behind by so much Lampard came on, so we got that out of the way in the least possible controversial way possible and that's now behind us.

And the thing with Shelton is that he's really good for one single attempt. What I mean is that he'll do really good things, either on his own with the ball or getting into position without the ball. But he only puts in one effort. There's no second effort, and it feels like the thought of a third or fourth effort has never occurred to him as something that might be possible. Ball goes to the defender on a play? He just stops and cedes control to them. He doesn't seem to harry the defenders and put in that extra effort to get the ball back. So I understand that a lot of people in the thread are saying he's terrible but I don't think that's what it is. I think it's more that he hasn't yet realized he should keep on playing no matter what. If he can learn that he can be very dangerous.

Anyway, it's early and I might watch the match on my DVR. If I can stomach it.
Acknowledge it. Lampard was clearly booed. There's no way you can hide it, Sheikh Seth.

I won't lie, I was cheering for a snowman once they hit 5.

Why? I want PV to stop getting a damn pass from the press. He was shit today.

And let one motherfucker who has been praising Mikey Goddamn Lopez show his face. Do I need to post a link to what I thought would happen to him in this match? He's an ADHD teen trying to finger bang the prom queen. Fucking worthless when it matters. If you need me to tell you that, you shouldn't be managing first division footy.

Maybe PV can pull it back, but this is grounds for dismissal in any other league. CFG can lick my salty twins.

They need to get their shit together.

Hmm... after reading this, I'd like Reyna to let you give them all an hour to get chewed out R. Lee Ermey-style. Definitely would feel better after that.

You don't really need a capo, just a core group of fans who are dedicated, know the chants and take the initiative to get things started when the noise dies down. Being in an SG is very much a pack mentality -- people will follow along on the songs, but you can't get anything going if everyone is just standing around looking at each other.

People need to be more active in the stands, and I think too much of the diehard/SG energy is being wasted on silly crap like taking selfies with smoke bombs and bandanas, spouting off on Twitter to rival fans and obsessing over building up your Instagram and Twitter follower account with photos of the latest team 'swag'.

If the SGs just focused on cheering the team on, and got more organized and started pushing the members to participate in more songs, things would improve. But if they want to waste their time being keyboard warriors online, things aren't going to change and the section is going to continue to disappoint.

The team isn't going to go anywhere if they can't get the results at home. Yankee Stadium for the second year running is the least intimidating atmosphere in the league for a visiting team to play in. NYCFC has the least amount of home wins across the league.

I think a positive from this loss can be that it forces self-reflection on how to better the NYCFC atmosphere. But the change is only going to be made if people look within and stop worrying about who one-upped one another online.

Personally I feel the only problem with the atmosphere today was that it wasn't negative enough. There's no reason why the supporters' section should be sunshine and rainbows when the team is being destroyed starting from the third minute, and I'd rather it stayed that way. If people want our team to be like Timbers fans, singing mindlessly for the entire game, irrespective of what's happening on the field, then good for them. But if I see the team rolling over 120 seconds into the game, then I don't see why I should spend the next 88 minutes singing their praises as if me paying their wages is A-OK. When the team lets us down to the extent to which it did today, I'm more than happy to conserve the energy that would usually go towards encouraging them, and focus it on letting them know that they've let us down. I've never been so proud to be an NYCFC fan as I was when I saw those bullshit miniature footballs sent back after the final whistle. Fuck this team, and fuck them if they think they deserve my adulation today. Supporting this team is a two-way street.

The atmosphere? We lost 7-0 and you are worried about the atmosphere? I think I know the damn problem, and it ain't your post or the atmosphere.

Lets talk about something funny. Not sure if this was mentioned above, but how about them introducing Frank as "Super Frank Lampard" when he came on in the 75th minute of a 5-0 game after missing the whole season and generally drawing the ire of the fanbase?

Was that the PA guy being ironic or was it just some much needed unintentional comedy? Either way, it was probably the most enjoyable moment of the match for me other than getting to see Jack.
The front office and media people are tone deaf.

If City Beats laughing and dancing at halftime after 3-0 didn't tell you that, or them forcing players to throw the autographed balls into the stands (which were thrown back at them) after that disaster didn't show you after this game I can't help you.

Um, you think? I was literally taken into conference by 3 security officers for yelling at PV - no swear words (that time - you're welcome mgarbowski mgarbowski, but apologies for other missteps). It's literally run like a damn monarchy. Where the fuck did they get that idea? Aww, shit. Nvm.

I think the reaction to this curb stomping will tell us a lot about the rest of the season. Major lineup changes and/or tactical changes? Or no changes.

If the latter, vs Orlando then I may lose hope.

Fuck PV for giving up and not making a change going into 2nd half.

This was absolutely the least comprehensible part of that abomination. Even if we had lucked into being goalless at the half, that performance was so abject and hopeless, to not change the shape or a single player is downright incompetent. But, we were down 3-0, and he wanted to see more of it.

Agree completely. But there were times when the team was 1-0 and 2-0 down -- with the game still within reach -- yet all the SGs checked out for the day.

That's very fair. After 2-0, I never heard our supporter's section. In fact, there were a few times I looked over there, wondering what they were doing. the answer, basically, was nothing.

Want to give credit to whoever in the supporters section had "another one" banner after the 5th or 6th goal. Hopefully our spineless players saw it. Normally I'd be upset our supporters were so quiet, but tonight they didn't deserve the support.

Unless the event gets cancelled due to today's result, some of us do have that chance at the Queens installment of City In The Boroughs this coming Wednesday night. I will be there. Hoo boy, I expect a scene.
