2020 Roster Discussion

NYCFC 2020 DEPTH CHART

RB: Tinnerholm, Scally
LB: Matarrita
CB: Chanot, Callens, Sands, Ibeagha
GK: Johnson, Stuver, Barraza

21 players total.

looking more like a 3-4-3 / 3-5-2 variation team. Might as well put Anton and Ronald as outside mids or wingbacks. Others on the roster can play that roll too. Start looking for CB depth and we're good.

Good point. I'd speculate there's a 50/50 chance Parks comes back and maybe 25/75 that Ofori comes back given the clues we have.
They have a ton of time to buy out Medina. The decision on the Mix buyout wasn't made/published until March.
For the loans technically we can renegotiate january first but it doesnt look promising
Assuming neither parks not ofori get reloaned, yes. But we also have haak and Rocha. We'll need some depth though

so who’s doing all these things? I wonder if we even make a single Acquisition this offseason.

Sports teams lose their GM's all the time. The job continues. We haven't lost the entire front office; David Lee will be in control until we hire a full-time GM. In the meantime, I have no reason to think the team forgets how to operate.

We all credit Claudio for the way the sporting team has operated, but he's not the only person around. He had a great team around him. No front office is just one person.

Our entire forward group returns, so with all the international spots available I assume we'll be looking for midfielders, a LB, and a backup RB primarily. Maybe some CB depth, too. Already at 21 players on the roster after sitting at 26 non-loaned players this year, so there probably won't be a ton of movement.
Shopping List
1 backup CB
1 backup LB
2 TAM- level CMs
1 backup CM
1 winger (assuming Jesus is moved)
maybe 1 starting LB (if Mata is moved)

That’s less than most years, and a couple of those might get filled out of the academy.

Left back has been a weak spot on the team pretty much forever. I hope we grab a clear starting upgrade.

Should we try to add Gideon Zellalem to our midfield? He was released by SKC. I feel like he can play the same role as a JPT with a lot more upside.

I'd like us to go out and sign 3 potential starting LBs with the assumption that 2 of them won't pan out. Idk if we have the money for that but that's my dream.

The only problem with that is the salary cap limitations. There are other areas of need (including finding a replacement for Parks/Ofori, which I would argue is of greater need than layering over Matarrita).

When you pick up your phone and see a notification from the NYCFC app and it turns out to be this and not a new coach.
That aside, I like Rocha and glad about this.

Happy with it depending on the number of course. I think he got better as the year went on

more like Dome put him in his preferred position in the midfield. when he was forced to play right back for tinnerholm in dallas he was horrible. he's just not a defender and that's ok. he does a great job as a depth player in the midfield.

I'm not too sure this paints the whole picture well.

His first game action of the season was as a LCB at Minnesota and that was disastrous. And you are right, when he was forced to play as a RB at Dallas he didn't play particularly well there. Though, the whole team really didn't either, and he was playing on a side that he's a lot less comfortable with.

But he did see action several times throughout the season at LB and I thought he represented himself pretty well at that spot. Nothing to write home about, but solid performances.
