NYCFC eSports

This is not just marketing. EA Sports has been working on this for a while. Teams have already been doing this around the world. Every team in MLS will eventually have one, so I'm glad that we actually made the first official signing. I was actually under the impression that other teams had already signed players. Reason being, I attended an event at the adidas store and the league was there with a whole setup for live broadcast of a small tournament. Each player there was representing an MLS team and NYCFC had no representation.

This is great for growth of the game in the US. It's no secret that the video game has helped birth a ton of fans in the US anyway. This is the next progression.

God, I hate it when people around here make cogent arguments. You're killing me

True story. My roommate my junior year of college was from Georgia and had no interest really in soccer. He never played it and probably couldn't tell you any teams besides Manchester United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid. We ended up playing FIFA damn near everyday he and became a PSG fan. He went to PSG's match in Charlotte against Chelsea and now he is a season ticket holder for Atlanta United.

Esports is big and has one of the fastest growing viewerships of any "sport". It's just marketing. I don't think those dedicated to marketing are also tasked with your specific concerns. If it weren't this, they'd have spent their day making another unfunny Pirlo video.

More people watch LoL championships than watch the NBA or MLB championships.

I find eSports strange, but this is far from "dumb" to capitalize on it.
