NYCFC Training Facility Thread

Can't see the local residents having a problem either (as indicated in article) its only a training ground. Several are situated close to residential areas (including villages in some cases) and really can't see why there would be an issue. Especially if there are plans for any additional community facilities as part of the development.

Since its outside the city I'm guessing this will be entirely funded by the club? Unlike the stadium funding the club has sought which DeBlasio refused to embrace in comparison to Bloomberg.

Really? The residents in Purchase fought a training ground on the Manhattanville Campus that would of added about 50 cars coming and going to a road that has thousands of cars a day. Our facility wound up on the same road 1/2 mile away.
never underestimate people complaining about anything.

I wonder what pushed them into Rockland instead of Westchester. Understandably, it's probably much cheaper, but for convenience's sake, anywhere in Westchester seems like a no-brainer compared to anywhere in Rockland.

I wonder if they also consider affordability of apartments in the area. Some of the players are making $40k, a lot of them are probably living near the training center and only commuting in for games.

so this kills any idea of having an nycfc 2? i mean if they wont have a mini stadium for it ( meeting USL regulations) in the training facility then it will be difficult to do so anywhere else ( unless they play in the new stadium if and when that happens).

I don't think I'd go that far. No-one said that NYCFC 2 has to be based at the training facility. Besides, it wasn't so long ago that people here were arguing the virtues of basing a USL club in up-state NY or further up the coast.

If you go to google maps and search for land NYCFC is trying to buy you will find that there is a very successful soccer academy with a clubhouse and 5 soccer fields http://www.wcsocceracademy.org/ .

You wonder whether NYCFC is also looking to buy them as well it would be a very smart move if they did.

World Class plays in a facility owned by the the town of Orangetown, so it's not for sale.

I would think that if a player is making $40k the team somehow pays the rent. Like the team rents the apt and lets 3 guys use it rent free.

I would imagine the league has some type of rules restricting to ngs like that. It would be too easy to get around the salary cap.

I see your point, and how some of that stuff could end up going overboard, but the league may look at it from a reasonability standpoint.

Paying an extra $3-4k per month so that 3 low income guys can rent an apt in one of the highest cost of living areas is quite reasonable.

Now, on the other hand, if we were to rent out a penthouse suite to a guy just under the DP level and provide him with a car, etc, etc.....I think that is more of what the league would be worried about.

true but in order to play in USL apparently they are pushing for teams to play in a 3K stadium or something like that. so by the time nycfc2 comes in that would probably be an established rule.

unless like you said playing in a high school/college field somewhere upstate becomes the option.

They do, the team can only foot moving expenses up to a certain amount. ~$2k IIRC as per the CBA.

I don't know if it's necessary considering they are already in our affiliate group, but honestly it might make a lot of sense to merge our academy with World Class FC.

Their location is really good. If you draw a 1 hour 15 minute circle around their academy, it goes all the way south past New Brunswick in New Jersey, up to Poughkeepsie in the north, to New Haven in the east, and also covers all five boroughs. That's a really good range of plausible travel distances.

Merging the academy with World Class FC would also double the size of the training facility.

I can see why they picked this spot anyway.

If the CBA was well written (no chance in hell), then it would include something like what the military has. Depending on which city a player is in, they get a housing multiplier/allowance to offset the cost of living; that way players don't resent having to relocate from an affordable city (like Columbus) to a less-than-affordable city like NYC.Because as it stands right now, $60K goes a hell of a lot farther in Columbus and Salt Lake City than it does in NYC and Seattle.

That's very fair. I think there are many players living in or near White Plains, giving them some cheaper living and proximity to the training center.

There's a great burger place called The Filling Station just south of here on 9W.
