Didn't think this was worthy of it's own thread, so I figured this one was just as good as any other.

Anybody catch this off the NYCFC Twitter page? A hint perhaps that they're finally going to get around to naming Yankee Stadium as the temp venue?

That was my initial thought as well, but then I realized that with a 20% stake in the club, the advertising would make sense regardless of where they play.

MrMartinezNYC MrMartinezNYC I'm not sure how the politics would work, but Willets Point would be nice. They've been trying to get rid of the chop shops over there for a long time now. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing them go either - on two seperate occasions I've had all my power side-view mirrors stolen from my car. The running joke was that I would be buying the exact mirrors from the guy that stole them. CP_Scouse CP_Scouse yes, a bunch of mechanics would lose jobs but it is pretty well-known that the business are shady at best.

I still like your idea CP_Scouse CP_Scouse of revisiting the Flushing airport. There's not too much real estate left in NYC that isn't being used -- that's one of the few places.

The junk yards are going to be taken away soon CP_Scouse CP_Scouse they had a certain amount of years and tried to appeal it when Citifield was built.. They have plans for the Junk Yards to make condos and shops there. The other side of the highway is already going through neighborhood changes with hotels and condos being built plus that shopping center on College Point Blvd. With the Junk Yards gone and more apartments and stores in the area that means more jobs from construction, retail, maintenance, parking and not to mention the extra jobs a new stadium and revenue that it would bring into the area.

Also remember this is NYC not the middle of no where. People will fly in stay in the city or in Queens and plan on visiting sights and turn Queens into the next Brooklyn.

The only way any stadium would flourish in the Bronx is if it is at the old Yankee stadium site which was already denied. Look up Bronx community board meeting. People in that area do not want the stadium. If you are from the Bronx or have traveled near there you know traffic is horrible most of the time. I wish it could be built in the City maybe where the Jets had proposed their stadium but just do not think it is realistic but good news for the naysayers of Queens... your walking distance nightmare will not come true since talks in Queens seem to have vanished.

Queens WILL NOT BECOME THE NEXT BROOKLYN. as much as we would all like that, it wont. maybe LI city would be but not the rest. if you notice theres no subway stops in the main part of Queens, other than the 7. the Older Generation of people dont want subways here because of the "people it would bring" (whether that racial or not its up to you). hell, the city was looking for a new site to build a highschool and the locals drew a SHITON of petitions to deny it. they were afraid of the increase "crime and graffiti".

another reason why willits point would be bad is because of the location. theres only the 7 train that goes there, where as yankee stadium has like 3 trains a metro north and a LIRR. more trains means more people which means more profit. plus i think its safe to say that most yankee fans take some sort of mass transit to the games

Willets is also very close to the LIRR - Port Washington line. Main St stop is within walking distance. That's not ideal in poor weather though.

i dont think its in walking distance, but you can connect to the 7 train from flushin mainstreet

Anyway you look at it, imho, Queens is going to be a tough sell and it has a lot more to do than just the NIMBY's.

I think it's somewhat of a known fact that the USTA is also trying to make a land grab in the park so they can expand the tennis center. Whether or not NYCFC or the USTA gets land, there's no way in hell they're going to allow 2 huge construction projects in FMP. I have no proof, of course, but I wouldn't be the least surprised if the tennis people are somehow supporting anti-SSS people behind the scenes. I'm sure they're greasing the palms of every politician that can help their cause.

The Mets also are players in this game. They don't want NYCFC in their back yard for obvious reasons. I'm pretty sure they also have plans to build in the parking lot where Shea Stadium stood.......though I'm not sure if that's city owned property or not.

Anyway you look at it I can't see 3 or possibly 4 huge construction projects in the neighborhood being allowed to take place.

P.S. Just to keep the bookkeeping straight, there is no LIRR at Yankee Stadium, but there is a Metro-North station.

it wasn't denied they just don't want tax money to pay for part of the stadium they want it to be more privately funded by the owners but besides that many residents actually favored a stadium in the bronx

I only claimed it was within walking distance because when I was a kid, when my parents would take my brother and I to Mets games we would take the Q65 to Main St and walk down Roosevelt Ave to Shea. It was a 15-20 minute. So it's not necessarily close, but certainly within a reasonable distance.

Dammit, I meant to add that to my post. Lesson learned. Can't keep one eye on Monday Night Raw one on the keyboard. ;)

theres a pretty big piece of land right next to the UN building on the southside.
I walk past that area everyday. I actually thought about it today as I was walking by, but it seems far too small for a proper stadium. It seems like there's only enough room for one or two large buildings.

edit:
When you compare the land size to Citifield, if oriented a certain way, it could fit. There is also a large property directly across the river that seems like more than enough space...Though I have no clue what sort of property it is.

edit2:
What about the Forest Hills Stadium space. It seems like a large piece of land, that's obviously already zoned for that sort of use. I've only driven past it once, so I know parking is repugnant in the area. But it is well within mass trans.

Having a temporary at Yankee Stadium would be very easy on the metro, but I do believe having it outside of the 5 boros couldn't be a bad thing either. The only thing that is for sure is I will be attending the games no matter what.

its outside, it would be harder for more people to go. not everyone has a LIRR station by them
