2015 Mls Season Attendance Thread

Its going tobe cold.

A lot of Saturday's games are going to be in the Northeast and it is going to be really cold. Attendance could take a hit.

Hard to say. When it was first announced that Yankee Stadium was our home field, they said it would be 33,444 for soccer. Lately, they've said normal soccer capacity is 27,528. I don't know if that's because they expected a year ago to open up the 300 level on a regular basis or because the current 100 and 200 level configuration leaves out some seats in those levels (mainly around home plate).

I understand that they included a few more 200 level seats this time around, so I am guessing we are close to a sellout on 28K.

-
Some pretty miserable weather contributed to the small NE DC and Columbus crowds. Hopefully that long winter you americans are experiencing ends soon.

- Chicago attendance was less than stated. That franchise is a mess and for the 3rd biggest city in the USA, its not really good enough.

- FC Dallas might have finally turned things around.

- RSL still doing a fantastic job.

That is really impressive when you look at the average gates in Europe from last season

No. League Country Average
1 Bundesliga GER 43.499
2 Barclays Premier League ENG 36.670
3 Liga BBVA ESP 26.955
4 Serie A TIM ITA 23.310
5 Ligue 1 FRA 20.953
6 Eredivisie NED 19.504
7 Bundesliga 2. GER 17.859
8 Sky Bet Championship ENG 16.609
9 Spor Toto Süper Lig TUR 12.131
10 Jupiler Pro League BEL 11.836

There are pros and cons though. The pro being the league is much younger and the match going tradition is just starting rather than having being developed. The con the population in the US is roughly the same as the whole of Europe, so pop wise you could add all the European gates together to get a fair population-based comparison.

It is excellent stuff though.

I think European population is more than twice US. We have roughly 320 million and Europe is over 700 million.

Tbh, I was going to call BS on that but i thought better check first, glad i did.

Straight off bat, you are right and that got me thinking as to what i or we perceive as Europe. Two of the most populous states, Turkey and Russia are overwhelmingly physically in Asia (Turkey is actually in the list). Then there are the smaller ones that football wise are European but not in Europe, Israel, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia.

Then there are those that are certainly in Europe and are European but because of the cold war, they have not really been considered European, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Czech Rep and Slovakia (which were one) plus Yugoslavia (plus all its derivatives) and all the others.

I suppose i meant the EU but that would leave out Switzerland, Norway, Iceland plus others but in which i did have in mind.

So basically yeah technically i guess you are right however my ramblings don't detract that 20.000+ ain't a bad turnout.

At a conservative estimate it puts MLS in the top 10 in the world or wherever the hell we are talking about. :)

Don't you tell my grandmother that Armenia isn't in Europe. ;)

MLS attendance is only growing and growing, but as a fan I don't look at how much seats are full. Cause as a fan I would rather see a passionate crowd of 20K than a crowd of 60k like Arsenal Emirates Stadium which is a library majority of the time.

32,822 at Citrus Bowl last night. Fantastic match.

Looks to be a very good weekend attendance-wise with Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, San Jose and SKC all having sell-outs or close to it.

I think the numbers are great and we are going to have a bumper season. I've subscribed to MLS Direct Kick for the first time and was flicking between the Vancouver, Seattle and Portland last night.
However, when comparing MLS attendances to other global football leagues, remember that MLS counts tickets sold, whereas many European and Asian clubs count the number of spectators n the stadium. I believe Arsenal and Manchester United count tickets sold but certainly my club's computers measures the number of clicks through the turnstiles.

- Orlando getting great numbers again. Hopefully two last minute defeats don't deter fans from showing up. Lets hope they can pull these numbers in the long run.

- Colorado and Chicago once again dragging the numbers down. MLS needs to really start getting on top of these under-performing clubs. Some of these ownership groups don't really seem to care.

- Pacific NW still going strong.
