2020 Schedule Thread

From a press conference with MLSPA Exec Bob Foose, we have confirmation that next year's schedule will start in February, heavily weighted to home games for teams with appropriate climates or venues.

The whole thread is filled with useful news so I recommend you click over.

Lot of good stuff. I don't think the league can afford a work stoppage, a deal will get done. We've mentioned this before, but the transition from Super Bowl to MLS makes a ton of sense to fill the void before Spring Training and NHL/NBA playoff races start to heat up. They really should be marketing hard during NFL playoffs and starting the week after the SB ends.

im ready for those snow games
I feel like February isn't that bad weather-wise. It's almost as if March is worse as winter is giving its final "darkness before the dawn" push into Spring. So weather-wise our schedule will be eh (February), then complete shit (March/ April), then good (May), then intolerably humid (June-July-August), then okay (September-October), and end cold (November).

I usually find that february is our worst weather month, as observation over the past few years of commuting.

February is damn cold and certainly doesn’t lend itself to sitting outside for 2+ hours to watch a game.

NYC really only has about 2-2.5 months of decent weather year round but that’s another discussion thread.

nah its cold, but the problem normally the big snow storms hit in february for the most part.

December and sometimes early January is not even too cold in some years. i remember christmas eve was like 70 a few years ago.

I also had this thought, so I went and researched a bit and in the end found that it's actually split quite well depending on the year where some years january dominates and some years february dominated in snow totals.

NYCFC: “season starts in February, we want to play the first three weeks on the road”

Yankees: “you’ll put at least 2 home games in February”

NYCFC: “of course, whatever you say”
This would suck massively as a fan, but if we had to play then I’d want out opponent to be LA and ATL to Fck them up in freezing temps after their tropical preseason. But I’m sure the league would put us against Minnesota and Colorado.

When we build our own stadium (not if... when) - it is reasonable to assume that the stands will be covered and heated and the pitch may be heated as well.

Of course... once we build our own stadium, the need for lots of games in Feb and March will go away.

That covered and heated stadium you speak of better have A/C too or damn it’ll be a nasty situation in August with 20k fans cooped up sweating in stagnant air.

Yankee Stadium in February you say? I'm ready.

Not in sky blue as far as I can tell, and perhaps now is the time to start saving up for one.
