the timing is weird to me. Like you really telling me no one complained when he was signed. Or worse yet MLS didnt "know" of wrong doing when he was registeted?

I would imagine its because they think other payments have been since made to Matuidi that MLS considers compensation and should be considered as part of the Designated Player determination.

At signing, Miami can say we are going to pay Matuidi $X and it looks reasonable. But perhaps since the last year, it may seem like Miami is paying for his housing and that should be considered comp, perhaps they made payments to his wife that were outside of his salary, etc.

There are probably many other potential scenarios than just the two above I noted, but that's what I'm guessing happened

Possibly, or perhaps MLS has people that are somewhat responsible for this and they noticed something. Or perhaps the potential "improper payment" came two months ago or something.

I would highly doubt that this would be on the radar at signing because it would just take time for the potential "improper payments" to actually go through.

no but i figure first couple of months maybe even three something should of shown. whatever, it will be interesting what the findings and punishment ( if any) will be.
