2026 General MLS Transfer Thread

As a Spurs fan I can tell you that Timo was tragic. A meme. Wish he’d gone to NJ lol.

Athletic reporting that Toronto made a $18M bid for Josh Sargent. Seems pretty steep for a 25-year-old championship player with 7 goals in 24 appearances. Also, what's with Toronto and spending big on USMNT players?

Indeed. It does seem like a lot, but then Wolfsburg had a deal at $28M that Sargent torpedoed. Now he’s trying to force a move at $18M.

They really do seem to be playing a different game altogether.

Forbes lists Miami FC as the second most valuable MLS franchise behind LAFC. In 2025 they had $180M in revenue, translating to $50M in operating income, a 17% increase over 2024. Pre-Messi, they had $50M-$60M in revenue and an estimated team value of $500M. Investing in your club as opposed to using it as a prospect farm pays off.

Also, having the real estate play finally built helps too.

I believe this to be true and I also believe everything with Miami needs an asterisk. There is no other Messi. The comparison points have to be LAFC and other non-Messiami clubs.

That's fair, likely even a bigger asterisk since Apple helped split the cost of the contract and heavily subsidized the investment. Even with all the Messi mania, LAFC has a higher valuation, so shifting the comp, the point still stands.

He's not Messi, but the Son signing was very clever. He's a high-character player who comes with no concerns about his willingness to compete. He has two large dihard fans bases in both Spurs fans and South Koreans that are going to drive attention to the club and buy merch. They have to easily be covering his costs based solely on the increased revenue he brings.

Not many other players out there have the same attributes as Son, but Salah should have a similar impact. Will be interesting to see if any MLS teams are able to land him.

Kinda makes a guy nostalgic for the days when the usual band of internet nitwit cry babies were whining that NYCFC is going to have an unfair advantage, because CFG will be funneling young star players from MCFC and millions of $$$ to the Bronx.

At this point I'd much rather go back to the Herrera model where CFG buys the young player and loans them to us, than the Jovan model where we are stuck with them for years. We don't get the GAM on the sale but that's a decent trade off to not losing premium roster spots for multiple seasons on guys like Jovan.

Funny thing is the Herrera model led to a lot of "farm team" accusations, and this model does not. Structurally I get why: we're nominally buying and investing in our own players now. But the cost benefit of getting Herrera and Shay Facey on loan was better than buying Jovan, Ojeda and Fernandez, and we're doing so as part of a comprehensive CFG portfolio.

Yeah I'm certain I was complaining at the time but I'd take that in a heartbeat at this point.

Plus the Angelino experience was pretty damn entertaining. Guy was a defensive liability but he could light people up out on the wing. Even at his young age you could tell he was special and had a shot to make it.

My personal Angelino memory is going apple picking in September 2015 wearing an NYCFC hat or shirt or something. Waiting for the truck to come by and give us a lift from the orchard back to the barn, and some English guy recognizes the logo and asks my opinion about #69. I said something vague and noncommittal. He says, "Kid's got a helluva left foot. The rest of him sucks but that left foot is gold."

That never happened and does seem like it will ever. Inter Miami is doing much better at it than NYCFC.
