2025 MLS Regular Season

The Union are outscoring their xG by a crazy amount that they are unlikely to sustain, but still better than anyone thought and a top team even after you discount for that.

I don't know if anyone is interested but TUDN (channel 444 on my Spectrum) is showing a match from USL Championship.
Las Vegas vs Tampa Bay are knotted at 0-0 with the 2nd half coming up.

looks to be with convincing wins too. 2 or more goals. their #9 leads the league with 6 goals. Wagner leads the league in assists with 4.
Unfortunately yes. Judging by the highlights they ran Cincy out of the field, and yesterday being the away team they still outshot NE by a wide margin

Getting a little PTSD watching Miami take the lead vs Charlotte after going down to 10 men in the first half. With no Messi.

If you aren’t watching the second leg of the LAFC - Inter Miami tie in the CCC, get to a screen and load it up. This thing is terrific.

FS1

Miami take the lead on a Messi penalty (after an Aaron Long handball in the box). LAFC have 3 mins + plenty of stoppage time to get a winner though

guess we are putting CCC stuff here since there's no 2025 thread.

didn't catch the miami game but looked like a banger. i am a messi fan (though i dislike all the things miami gets away with because he's there) and it was really nice to see him so excited. I mean, he celebrated like it was a classico.

Vancouver really showing up this year too. What a wild end to that game.

It's guaranteed to be MLS vs LIGA MX in the final and between miami and vancouver, i think MLS has a good chance. Sucks the crew had their issues last year, or they probably would have won it too but you all know what we think of hypothetical champs haha

Orlando dominating the Red Bulls, but can’t get on the scoreboard. Now get a Red Card and have to hold on a man down for 30’.

We are about a quarter of the way through the season already. There's a ton of time to go, but those 6 dropped points against Miami, Atlanta, and Minny just feel like they are going to loom large this year.

If Keaton, Maxi, or Martinez miss any meaningful time before reinforcements arrive the season is cooked either way.

All depends on what you mean by loom large.

Are we fighting to get into the playoffs? We deserve whatever we get.
Are we fighting for high seed positioning? That seems a looooong way off.

Shit. I hate being one of the depressive, negative voices. I need to recalibrate.

You can be balanced and still see things as they are. There are positives so far in this season: Johnny Shore, Haak, Pascal for sure. But I personally think that our starting XI is average at best, and may well be below average and, compounded with our lack of depth, there aren't more than 6-8 teams that deserve to do worse than us in the entire league, truly. That's where we are. I haven't seen us dominate a single match yet, and we haven't been unlucky in terms of results. If we had been just a bit unlucky we could be sitting with the Montreals and the D.C.s of the world right now.

There are 6-8 of those teams in the Western Conference alone.
I think our starting XI is average, maybe somewhere around 16th or 18th best in the league. But we are so thin in terms of quality subs that I don't think our current squad is better than 20th, maybe 24th. Unless there are reinforcements or we are really really lucky in terms of injuries, it will be a struggle to make the playoffs. We are going to spend weeks just yoyoing across the playoff line. There are a lot of teams underperforming, like Dallas, Seattle, or Atlanta, but they have more top-end talent.
