Looking ahead to Saturday.
- Villa rested last weekend, which I assume was intended to let him start the next two.
- Berget starts tonight, and is a bench option Saturday.
- Maxi is an issue. He went 90 against Orlando, and we need him against Atlanta. Not sure what we would do without him fronting the midfield though. Maybe Medina or Tommy.
- Ofori is also coming off 90 against Orlando. Do we start Kwame in this game instead? That sounds like a potential disaster. Might be one reason to go with a 4-3-3, which allows Sands to start in midfield.
- Sweat was only 45' against Orlando. We can also put SAS on the left if need be.
- Ibeagha went 90 against Orlando, but if we can get Chanot focused, he can start against Atlanta with Callens.
I think the first couple of bullets are very good points (not that the others are bad takes).
Regarding Maxi, I wouldn't be surprised to see PV take a shot at Medina at the #10. He has seemed to play well centrally, so it's definitely an option.
I've been calling for this for a while, but I'd really like to see Houndtondji get run out there. A pairing of Chanot and Hountondji is what I think I'd like to see.
If I had my way, I'd go:
3-5-2:
Berget-Villa
Sweat-Medina-Lewis
Ofori-Awuah
Houndtondji-Sands-Chanot
Stuver
Bench: Johnson, Caldwell, TMac, SAS, Scally, Ibeagha, Ring
4-3-3:
Medina-Villa-Lewis
Maxi
Ofori-Sands
Sweat-Houndtondji-Chanot-SAS
Stuver
Bench: Johnson, Caldwell, TMac, Scally, Ibeagha, Awuah, Ring
I think either of those lineups should be good enough to beat NJ with the pieces they are missing and its a good mix of competitive and getting chances to look more at certain guys.
If I could have one guy to choose to see out there tonight, it would be Sands.
