I found one in Blue and Orange. I might have to start wearing this to matches.

The supporter groups need to team up and have all the supporters purchase these for one game (maybe the final game or an away game..) and then make a giant pineapple TIFO.
"Come on City boys, make some f*king noise, we'll go PINE-AP-PLE" tadah problem solved. *bows*

In honor of our guests tomorrow night.

Not to disappoint but I'm 99.9% sure all of this comes for a linguistic misunderstanding, and Dome just humoring people and playing along. The Spanish expression (which is very Peninsular and probably not familiar to that many speakers outside of Spain) is "linda peña" but some English speaker with a passing familiarity of the language must have confused that with "linda piña" (pretty pineapple). Then again, makes for a pretty unique nickname.

IF NJRB can have a viking army without any vikings, we're keeping our pineapple regardless of what the truth is!
They had a Scandinavian coach a while back, but I think their supporters club predated him. I have no recollection of Scandinavian players on their roster.

Just checked, they’ve had 4, 5 if you count Iceland, but all played for approx a season between/around 2010-2013, and only 2-3 played with and regularity.

Teemu Tainio 42 matches
Jan Gunnar solli 55 matches
Markus Holgersson 63 matches
Victor palsson 16 matches
Brian Nielsen 3 matches

This is the sort-of-official explanation:
New York had a disastrous season in 2009 which prompted a major shakeup in the front office. Erik Soler (Norway) was brought in as well as Hans Backe (Sweden) and Joel Lindpere (Estonia? ESTONIA!? Close enough...). We had a brand new beautiful Stadium, we were winning and a glimmer of hope grew in the South Ward. Our Founders showed up to games wearing mock Viking helmets as a sign of affection for Hans Backe. The Hans Backe Viking Army was born.

Fascinating... they named their SG after a coach there for 3 seasons. Granted, he gave them a first place finish (followed by 5th & 3rd) in the eastern conference (only 16 teams league wide), but..... that’s a lot of devotion to a fleeting personality.

The Montreal Expos team name was derived from a fair that lasted 7 months, and I doubt many residents would consider that fair to be among the top 10 events in city history. At this point, I don't think the Viking Army is honoring Backe in any way. He inspired it, they decided it was fun, and they kept it up. I have a fondness for silly group traditions that nobody can remember how they got started.

Any Club that includes Chicken Bucket FC among its supporters needs to have this attitude.

The original (here) was Catalan: "una pinya molt bonica." (Do they really use the same expression in Spanish with "linda" instead of "bonita"? That's interesting.)

And this was no misunderstanding, this was destiny.

In my opinion, the best chants are the custom ones. Either the super fun interactive ones (Like this or the "we've got the ball/lost the ball") or the ones that come up out of purely the club supporters themselves - ex: Chicken Bucket. Those are what give a stadium its own identity, really. I mean imagine you were a player on a different team and every stadium you went to sang the same songs- you wouldn't feel much disadvantaged after a while, because it'll just feel like a home game. As I've been watching a lot of MLS games I've noticed that so many teams use the same things. So many teams use that zombie nation song as their goal song- Dallas, Atlanta just to name two... and then from the chants themselves I've heard most of ours (formed in their team's name of course) being done, as well. I always hope we can find more custom-made chants. :)

That's interesting! Yeah, I guess I should have assumed with Dome the original would have been Catalan...
