This is why for the Big Teams of the world the targets set for managers are typically "get to Round X of Competition Y" because it's unrealistic to set a target of winning a tournament and have that be the criterion around which the manager is sacked or not.

That’s why top 3 is important. A winning team is good for business, albeit it may be hurt, regarding attendance, by a shitty baseball stadium/field. Sliding in to the playoffs with an unwatchable product isn’t what anybody should be looking to achieve as a safe line to cross - for a NYC team, that should be cause for dismissal.

It’s one thing to aim for the playoffs if the team missed the year before and has a shoestring budget, but we don’t, so expectations should be higher. At worst, top three in east with wins in both the USOpen Cup and MLS Cup. Short of that and the team is underperforming.

I would agree with you. We don't know the goals and expectations of Dome from the FO.

Nobody knows, but I think that's a perilous result for Dome. For one thing it would mean 2 years in a row of finishing worse than the year before. You cannot get better every year, but it's bad to get worse twice in a row. I expect they would look at the arc of the year, but I do not know how that plays out if they add a major piece or 2 midseason.
Also, ticket renewals are done before the season ends. I expect that has an effect.

It will also be interesting to see if internal politics accelerate a departure as well. Dome spent the preseason talking about playing a fluid front 3 that didn't necessarily need a true CF only to turn around and start talking about working on acquiring one 2 games in. Complete speculation but if he told the FO he didn't necessarily need a CF and then immediately flip flopped to deflect blame that's going to piss people off. Maxi also appears to be confused and frustrated. Maxi by all accounts has been nothing but professional during his time with the club and he was tremendous for us last year, if the frustration continues how much weight will it hold if Maxi gets to the point where he says something to the FO or requests a trade?

I'm sure on field results will be the ultimate decider but if Dome continues to tinker, flip-flop on approach, have more combative exchanges with the press, not take accountability for losses and spout constant excuses he seems more than capable of accelerating his own departure.

Correction - Dome talked about a fluid front 3/4 all preseason only to do an about face before the first match and say we were looking to bring in a CF.... and we later found out that Kamara went to China and rumored Rossi wasn’t interested & was signing with LAFC (?).

That’s pretty fcking damning to have that epiphany right before the first match after touting CFG Total Football and letting go the one CF on the roster.

Mitrita seems to roam and drop into the same deep midfield spots as Maxi. After watching Mitrita play a couple of games I suspect there would have been an adjustment period for him an Maxi regardless of the system and the coach. That said constantly changing tactics and unclear instructions from Dome are going to compound the issues considerably.

The results, lack of transparency, no stadium news, broken promises. Some fans are so content with the bs that gets spewed and take it and run with it. "Oh Reyna said we got X plan in mind and something is going to happen." And just forget all the broken promises. We have to express frustration with the FO and the team at games. We can't clap it up and cheer for them after shitty performances. It shows that we're okay with that. Even some of the biggest names in baseball got boo'd here in NYC for not doing their job. We pay to see these guys perform at a high level in a very demanding city. We have a rich ownership that's very capable of putting a great team together but for what ever reason we got Dome out here screwing shit up and also Reyna is to blame. I'm on the Reyna Out train as much as I am on the Dome Out train.

Perhaps stop cheering for the team. Cheer for an individual if they do something apparent, but it’s ok to boo the team at halftime/end of game if they look atrocious. It removes the guilt you’re feeling Christopher Jee because it’s approaches the result on the field as a representation of the organization and not the individual players.

Lol it's not really about guilt, more about clarity of messaging.

We’ve never booed this team. I don’t see it starting yet. This isn’t a team that’s woven into the fabric of the city like you would see in Europe - or the Yankees here.

Most fans feel detached from the team except a small group of Ultras (don’t know what else to call them). If they booed, and it would have to start with the leadership of TR and NYCSC, and even then, I don’t think it would be received well by most of the other fans. There’s a lot of casual fandom with this club.

Not true. I don’t remember the matches, but the fans have booed in the past across multiple matches. The only one that directly comes to mind was the RedBull Wedding, but there were more.

That’s your prerogative and it’s perfectly acceptable. Has the downturn in tix sales really sent a message to the FO? They still inflate the attendance numbers.

It is a disappointment to me that neither the culture nor technology have developed sufficiently and as such both booing and car horns still end up directed at far more people than the intended targets.

It must really piss you off then that Emergency Sirens are ignored by the specific cars in front of them because they don’t want to turn right/left to get out of the way.
