im thinking about taking the Series 7 exam with hopes of working at some firm. But to take the exam, you need sponsorship from a firm (or FINRA assosciated agency). Through FINRA, it says that if you are not assosciated with a firm, you can complete another form (U-10), but even then you need some type of firm assosciation.

how the hell do i take the Series 7 test, or better yet, how the hell do i go about getting firm sponsorhsip.

What's your background? Are you still in college? A Series 7 won't help you get a job with an investment bank or in the world of finance. A CFA, finance degree/MBA, connections, etc are really your best bet.

Yep still in college. No degrees yet but aiming for a history degree. I honestly thought just having a series 7 would help me immensely. But i guess not haha

You're in a good position then. Series 7 is so broad - it won't do you much good. You're better off just understanding the structure of banks, reading the WSJ daily, and understand what's going on in the markets. Most important thing is that they know you are smart (keep that GPA high)/can be molded, a team player and have great attention to detail. If you check those boxes, that will at least help get you in the door. And network your tail off to get in a position to actually have your resume looked at.

Don't try to take the test. Instead of studying 100 hours, spend 100 hours at networking events.
