Home - 9/23 Chicago

Come on everyone. Don't we want to see a top 3 of TMac - villa - Khiry? Then put jack in Lampard's spot and see what happens. Might be magic. Magic Jack? (Damn it's taken!)

Even when TMac is supposed to be playing winger he drifts inside. I'm intrigued by Harrison inside, but I'm thinking it might be better for his development to let him play a consistent position this season, and play McNamara in his more natural spot.

On the most recent episode of This Week in MLS, Sussanah Collins said her next guest on BTW (her other MLS Digital web series) will be Knicks legend Kristaps Porzingis. She said they'll be checking out an NYCFC game and you have to think it's this one since our next game is in a month. He's 7'1" and unfortunately won't be in goal but be on the lookout for him.

If he's Pitchside, I'll do my best to get a picture.

One season and he's already a "legend"? What's Ewing then?

I think he will have the seat in front of you.

MLS Points since August 1:

CHI: 9
NYCFC: 9

Not as easy as everyone thinks. Also illustrates how awful NYCFC has been playing recently. (FYI, TFC leads MLS in points since August 1 with 17.)
I agree with the overall sentiment that there aren't guaranteed wins in MLS. I think the match in Houston is the same thing, to a much greater extent. I also agree that we haven't played very well over the past 6-7 weeks.

That said, the numbers are a bit skewed by Chicago having played one more match than us since then and having 5-3 home-away versus our 3-4 home-away, which matters a lot in this crazy league. They have 5 pts from 13 road matches year though, of course, one came against us!

I would be very interested to see who lines up at practice today as the "first team".

A mailbox in goal and that plank from Ed, Edd n Eddy replacing Mena's CB spot.
Plank would be a beast in goal.
Play the most dangerous 3 in the back
Tmac-villa-Harrison
--Pirlo------Mix----
----Iraola---Bravo---
Mata-Brillant-Allen
--------Plank---------

Kinda like playing a 5-2-3 with Bravo and Iraola slotting into LCB and RCB when the wing backs bomb forward

Here is how I think the lineup will look on Friday night - barring any unexpected injury news.
  • I think Coach V will want to keep Shelton off the bench as a super sub.
  • I also think he will give Harrison his first taste of a central midfield spot. This is my biggest level of uncertainty as I could see him putting Mendoza on the left where he could switch with Villa as the situation warrants.
  • I have Mena at CB despite his recent struggles because I think Coach V will want his athleticism to help contain Accam.
EDIT: To be clear, this is a prediction, and not how I would necessarily do things.

Bench: Lurch, Q-Tip, 6-Train, Hernandez, Lopez, Mix, Tony Tiger

I have Shelton starting instead of Mendoza with T-Mac in the MF and Harrison back on top, with Hernandez in for Mena.

How's this for a way to put tons of speed on the wings?

Hey, just because Pep started Angelino as a midfielder today doesn't mean Vieira can start Khiry as a defender on Friday.

Hmmmm. Or *can* he… <raises one eyebrow, strokes chin, scary movie music>
I've read this book before and it didn't turn out well for Brek Shea
