As for the game, I think we need to take 3 points and we should. Orlando is nothing special. They are not bad, they are not great. We need to always be close to Larin in the box. Do not give him any more. I am real anxious to see what formation PV uses. I hope the same as last game vs Toronto with the same starting 11 except switching Saunders with Lurch.

I understand why some people mention trading Poku, though I wholeheartedly disagree....

But trade Mullins??? What depth do we currently have at CF to trade Mullins? The guy will get minutes throughout the year. Additionally, who would trade for him? Mullins is fantastic, but I'm not quite sure he would regularly start on a whole ton of teams.

I totally agree about Mullins. He has the potential to be really valuable this season especially if (god forbid) Villa picks up any kind of injury. Mullins brings a totally different dynamic to the front line with his ability to hold up the ball and head it down for teammates. Fits very well into what we do with all of our attacking midfielders able to make runs off of him.

I think we all need to relax on making such rash judgments on a game by game basis. How are we ever supposed to have continuity if we want to replace players after a bad game, or bad half, or bad 10 minutes. You need to stick with players as a coach to give them confidence, letting them know that making mistakes is part of the game. The worst is when players play scared.
This is true, however I would give the benefit to Mendoza, and allow him to make mistakes. Reason being (although have not seen just enough yet) he seems to be just as fast or faster then Shelton, better on the ball then Shelton and gets into space(understanding of the play) better.

I think Hernandez normally plays scared.

You may be right. But I guess I should have clarified my comment more. When I say players can't play scared I am talking about scared of their coach, knowing if they make a mistake he will get yelled at like a little kid. Being scared because of the opponent, or because you are not confident in your skills is a little different.

No doubt from the limited minutes we saw, Mendoza looks to be a much better player then Shelton.

I understand but i think it will be very clear soon that mena and mendoza must start. When lampard is healthy he must be a starter as well. That right there means sit hernandez, Shelton and taylor.

If Lampard is fit and we stick with the W-M, I'd like to see us try Mix next to Pirlo. I think we're all super happy with Bravo's presence there and that it freed up Il Maestro to work his magic, but I thought Bravo's distribution was middling and he made too many rash challenges around the top of the box for me to lock him in in that position. It also means that if Orlando go in hard and try to mark Pirlo out of the game, we have somebody else in there (Mix) who can hurt them with his passing range.

The only reason I'd stick with Bravo in there is if we want to be able to move fluidly between 4 at the back and 3 at the back. Bravo seems to be able to slot in at CB. If we play White instead of Hernandez or Brillant, he's shown he can do a decent job at right back. Alternatively if Iraola is back he could start in the back 3. Toronto's adjustment to take advantage of our lack of defensive width really seemed to shut our offense down because it committed Khiry and TT. I can't imagine that Orlando didn't take notice of that. If we need to make a sub to make that adjustment, that's reasonable too.

I'd also like to see Mendoza replace Shelton and see whether some more compelling attacking width can mitigate our lack of defensive width.

And yeah, it's time to give Lurch a go between the sticks.

All this said, I haven't seen any Orlando games yet this year so I don't have much of a read on how they're set up or how we can take advantage of it.

It is a little different. The first one is just normal human nature. The second one is the really problematic one. And I think that may be where Hernandez is. If you don't have confidence in your own skills, what the coach will do if you screw up isn't the biggest problem.

Hernandez may lack confidence, but he's right in doing so.

from Sunday night mendoza looked as if he had a lot of talent, quite more then shelton. shelton is still a very young player and has A LOT of learning to do until he can become consistent enough, my thoughts are play the same formation with mena instead of hernendez, place mendoza for shelton, and saunders gotta go, the first goal was completely his fault. he either was talking to the defense or just dozed out for a second and didn't realize the ball was coming at him.

Is Kaka actually on Orlando's 18 because I've seen about 9 O-City matches and he hasn't seen the pitch in any of them.

Orlando was up a man against Chicago for 60 minutes at home and couldn't score. Shots and scoring chances were about 50-50 for that final hour. We really should be bossing this game.

Granted, I don't want to be miserable watching in the stands, but there's a part of me that hopes the weather Friday night is cold and damp - Orlando has had two home games in warm Florida and they won't be acclimated to crappy NYC March weather. So in the interest of a solid win, I'll gladly take one for the team and marginally suffer while drinking from a 50ml of whiskey from the safety of my covered seat.

p.s. hand warmers may be key for Friday to warm up after holding a beer.

I don't quite understand this. What position would Lampard be playing?

If Lampard is fit to go for Friday, I think we'll see him off the bench as opposed to in the starting lineup.

With 4 days rest, I could see TMac or Mix not starting (more likely TMac since Mix has been involved in nearly every scoring play we've benefited from) and Lampard slotted in to their position. I'm a big proponent of position/job security/continuity, but Vieira will rotate the team to keep everybody fresh.

FYI - as for Lampard, some of the folks who saw him post-game Sunday asked him when he thought he would be fit, and he said probably two weeks, so I don't see him playing, especially on a cold (and rainy, please no) night. (Sorry for the lack of citation to the source, can't recall the source, but I believe at least one person somewhere on here as well as I believe on one of the scary FB groups). Not necessarily the gospel, but we can at least keep that in mind when analyzing the prospective line-up.

I remember this also.
