If you could cut one player

Based on your ability to suffer their play. No salary considerations or further guarantees.

Which one?

For me, choice is among 3. Tpfkau,Sitch, Sal.

Even given how shit tpfkau is, I'd still choose one of the others. Frankly, for me, it has to be Sitch.

I can not deal with him. I literally hate watching the other two. But Sitch brings me actual physical pain because he's a brain dead foul machine good for nothing Jersey shore extra.

I predict the forums will soon feature an argument between two people purportedly arguing about the merits of a particular player, except they won't realize they are talking about 2 different players because of nickname confusion.

anyway, since im going to actually follow the question which states "Based on your ability to suffer their play. No salary considerations or further guarantees".

Im going with Khiry Shelton, his lack of a first touch makes me want to kill myself.

Pirlo. For $6mil we could have another guy that could threaten for MVP, and we desperately need it.

What is the comma isn't an issue but the 'c' is a different font?

and one less iconic player that generates ticket and jersey sales that would make u want to spend that money.
I don't think the $$ from jersey and ticket sales driven by Pirlo's presence from now through October will be that significant. The team has chosen to not even market Pirlo (much) anymore. Even this week's marketing was come see "two" world cup champions face off head to head. That tells you how they value Pirlo's ability to drive ticket/merch sales from this point on. His value from that perspective is close of a non-factor in my mind.

If the money were spent wisely in a manner that would maximize chances of winning an MLS Cup, that's where we would have the most potential upside. As far as $$ to gain, winning/Cup run > Pirlo.

but when he came here he was a huge part of sales...

This isnt even about pirlo, because im pretty sure this is his last season anyway. Its about NYCFC's willingness to spend that kind of money on 3 players that arent going to have the same kind of draw.

Also, i dont even care about getting another iconic player DP. If i had my way id be taking young nobody's that are riding pine in the top leagues. Offer them decent enough salaries to get them out of Europe and South America and give them some playing time

Agreed that from the beginning he was a huge draw on tickets/merch (I have a collection of the latter myself). Focusing strictly on a going-forward basis, that ship has mostly sailed. As he is no longer playing a role on the field or off, the huge chunk of change could certainly be used better for players who at least will fill critical gaps on the field. But that's not going to happen, and also would require the team to spend the money correctly.

I had a cynical theory that signing Pirlo, Lamps and Villa was decided, in part, to bolster international TV contracts.

If we get 3 legends from the biggest soccer markets in the world, it helps the league and I would assume NYCFC, get more TV revenue. More bang for your buck essentially.

Knowing the relatively poor track record of aging superstars, (Villa, Robbie Keane, etc. excluded) I'd rather have the $$ go to younger stars of the Yangel, Camargo, and Cyle Larin variety.

The question is what drives ticket sales long term, stars or results? There is not arguing that the star approach was hugely successful during the process of launching the team. No one can argue Pirlos arrival didn't cause a considerable spike in attendance and brought a lot of new fans to the team. If the Maxi signing is any indication the team appears to be trying to find younger DPs that fit the system and could help drive results so we may get a chance to see which approach is better at driving attendance.

I dont think Maxi had any effect at all on our attendance though and i think hes our most important player. And as much as it sucks at the end of the day its a business and money is gonna come first.
