I think you may be judging Americans by British standards again. I know that we don't always tend to have names for supporters groups - although you only need to look at groups like 1894 to see that it does happen - but the very fact that every single MLS team's supporters groups have names and identities should suggest that for NYCFC there's no reason why it shouldn't happen either. It shouldn't really matter whether or not they name their SG though, since you as I are in the UK and will not be a member of it. Realistically, aside from members referring to it, you should barely hear the term used once the team gets playing; news of the games will drown out any references to it.

Otherwise, I somewhat agree with your other points, to a lesser or greater extent.

Every MLS team has a supporters group with a name. This is America, we shouldn't try to be all cool and different by just saying NYCFC SC. Quite frankly, I think that sounds lazy and lame. I agree with the other points about a chairperson and the Twitter account. At some point we have to act official if we are going to be official. I don't care who steps up I just want someone to take charge. If I didn't go to school in Philly I would because I think someone needs to soon. This MLS season should be the time we get our name known, and like what was said, if it takes a publicity stunt like a group going to RBA, so be it. We want our name out there, well putting some stickers around the city isn't gonna do that.

Personally, I'm really not convinced that "invading" the RBA is a good idea, but then again perhaps it's another case of cultural differences.

I'm not necessarily saying it's good or bad. Originally I was against it. I think invading was just used because it's not our home. After thinking about it, I do think that if a group of NYCFC Supporters went to RBA, not to be assholes, but just to make themselves known, it would grab the attention of people around MLS and get our name out there. Especially if the gave was one of the nationally televised ones. I'm not saying we need to, but it's something to consider to try to get our name out there. How many New Yorkers stop to look at a random sticker? I know I wouldn't. If I'm walking, I want to get from point A to point B as fast as I can, and I'd be willing to bet most if not all New Yorkers feel the same.

I agree, the time to get the ball rolling is now. An official "first" event would do great in getting people to meet each other and involved, and I'm not talking about a bar crawl (which is a good idea in it's own right). Now that tickets have started to be sold it's time to get really organized, get a good idea of membership and start pushing any potential name. People will start to get involved when there is more of a foundation laid and the club will also take notice and push the agenda, driving people towards us. Before you know it the summer will be over and we'll be scrambling to make things happen.

For starters yes this is allowed, and just about every game for any sport I've attended there were opposing fans. As an Islander fan, I can say that they are usually outnumbered in their home arena. I agree with @Tiger Jones the bar crawl is good start, however it isolates people who are not bar goers or not 21 (six months for me). Those people may just as bad want to be involved in decision making and in the group. Bar crawl is still good to get other people to meet and ideas to flow, but we should get some other events. I know there was talk about one in May, that's good. We just don't want to become stagnant and forgotten about, we need to continue to get our name to the City and Soccer World.

There's obviously other options, I don't think this is the only one. But this would be one way to gain publicity and add a little fuel to the rivalry. There is no such thing as bad publicity. If people are talking about you, then you accomplished your goal. Nobody is talking about us. We need to change that.

This sounds so high school to me. Focus on getting people together, having people buy tickets, etc. How many people show up at a Red bulls game in blue won't help the club; having people show up in Blue in Yankee Stadium in March 2015 will.

It's not to help NYCFC, it's to help the supporters group gain publicity and attention. I have not heard any other suggestion about how the group plans on getting it. Bar crawl is great to get people to meet and start something, but nobody around MLS is going to care or notice. Atlanta's group is already recognized by MLS, Orlando has theirs since they have been around, even Miami's is more known than us. I never said this was the only or even the best, I was against it at first to be honest. But it made more sense when I really thought about gaining publicity.

You don't need that kind of publicity. Start building the foundation for the group so that when the games start, you'll be prepared. The bar crawl, these forums, etc. are a great way to start building that foundation. Getting a reputation as the losers who go taunt RBA at RB games isn't going to attract people to join.

Atlanta doesn't have a team. The Silverbacks aren't being promoted; Blank is not an owner of the silverbacks. The bar crawl and this forum does nothing for publicity. The forum is great for exchanging ideas, and the bar crawl is great to meet people. Nothing has been done though to promote the team.

Nothing has been done to promote the team...except for the advertisements on the subways, the murals, the fancy press conferences, the fan vote, the Mariano Rivera thing yesterday, etc etc? That's not enough, but showing up at another team's match will be? I really don't know how much more promotion you want with a team with no players and no matches for almost a year. Maybe you'd like NYCFC to have interns dress up as blue statues of liberty and run around Manhatten?

Thats why I suggested the "invasion". Can you imagine 75-150 people going to RBA for a nationally televised game and us just BEING there. If that doesn't garner attention. Idk what will.
