Whether Kreis was given the company hymnal is up for debate, but he said the following which contradicts his stance on when players can be integrated:
“I don’t know that we’ve ever said we expected to have that by the start of the season,” said Kreis. “I think we’ve always been clear that we will have three DPs, but the timing of it has never been exact. I think there is one thing that we have been clear on and we continue to be clear on, that we’re not going to add any player, regular player or Designated Player, because we’re against some timeline." With commentary from SBI: *As far as adding a third Designated Player goes, Kreis said the club still intends to do so but that it might not happen until later in the year.*

And if anybody wants to dispute that Kreis signed on to all of the players on the roster, there's this telling quote:
“I think it makes for a special situation, I really do,” said Kreis. “You can look at this in sort of the negative way and say, ‘What an unbelievably difficult project we have in front of us.’ Because we do, it’s certainly challenging. But I prefer to look at it in a very positive way and say, ‘This is a terrific opportunity to start from scratch.’ Literally every player that will be there on day one of pre-season has been particularly wanted by the staff.”

So in essence, from Day 1 Kreis has been hedging his bets & was speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Taking ownership of the roster and also issuing caveats to its construction.

I also cited to him in Jan 2015 saying what you said after the Lampard extension. I'm not sure why you think quoting a nearly identical January 2015 article refutes me. Your timeline was incomplete. You insist on being offended that his midsummer 2015 statements contradict his Jan 2015 statements, but ignore that his Jan 2015 statements contradict his 2014 statements. You seem to need to believe he never said midsummer transfers are problems until things went bad, but he said so 9 months before the season started.
And if you don't think his January statements were made under management pressure, well, fine.

Sorry if you can't read between the lines, I didn't think it was necessary to post more that 2 items on the timeline since they demonstrated he wanted it both ways (my cited links and yours). I'll try and be more responsible next time so you have an easier time following the timeline - my point though with my cited links was that prior to the season he was happy with the roster and wasn't going to be rushed to get the 3rd DP before the start of the season.

At the risk of getting into a discussion with Ulrich, which we all know is hard on the brain cells, Kreis had good reason to back-track on calling mid-season DPs "failures."
However, what reason would he have to say it in the first place unless it's his honest opinion?
Anyone that's watched MLS knows he's bang on right about mid-season DPs. Drogba's the only one that comes to mind as hitting the ground running.

Why would he go out there? He'll get any available job in MLS.
Punishment for not playing Poku. He was still under contract before we fired him, we could do what we wanted.

Considering the A-League is a step down from MLS, and a place Kreis has never been too before, I doubt he would take such a demotion.
Not the question. The question is, would you have rather started the season with Villa and Xavi? Or started the season with Villa and added Pirlo in July?
Does a Villa-Xavi partnership get this team in the playoffs? If you were looking for a reason CFG canned Kreis, here's exhibit A.

First of all, he didn't want Pirlo either. They're both exactly the type of player he didn't want and he's 100% right to not want those guys.
They're old. They're done. Get some youth that can propel the team for years like Giovinco.

What every post here is about, namely Xavi would have joined NYCFC if it wasn't for Kreis.

You don't know what was available to him. Giovinco was not available to him. He said no to Xavi and the deal fell apart.
We all live in the world that actually exists. You want to live in a fantasy world.
So my question still stands - given the option that Kreis was given - Xavi all year or nothing until Pirlo got here - which would you prefer? Those were the options.
He punted on Xavi and we missed the playoffs.
