The team took a different team bus tonight. We looked great. I was impressed by how much we were able to control them. We took the ball off of them countless times.

I had fun tonight. And now I get to watch a free football match between Toluca and Montréal.
I was there too, it was fun. But my wife came with me and I wasn’t going to make her sit through a second game, haha

jansen said wolf hurt his foot in training and that's why he wasn't in the squad.

thought our backline was pretty solid tonight. tanas defended well and had a good game with a handball flub. haak is becoming a set piece threat and i love to see it.

look forward to seeing the nico-maxi-martinez connection grow

Wasn't able to watch the game, but I saw the goals -- Nico might be the real deal. That pass to Alonso for the 2nd goal was niceeeee. If he's playing like this before he's even comfortable here, he might turn into one of the best No. 10s in the league. He's a real one.
I lost count of how many through balls he put into space for someone to run onto, how many times he ran a give-and-go with someone. All of a sudden, we were actually dynamic in the final third. He's a real one for sure.

I wasn't sure how it would work with Nico and Maxi on the pitch together, but it was fantastic. Maxi was able to control central distribution while Nico ran free, and they were on the same page all along. Lots of communication.

Nico plays with the urgency and directness of Santi, but combines it with Maxi's passing vision and positional awareness. I honestly can't recall seeing a player so aggressive in his attacking intent without overcommitting or forcing things. The FC Dallas match and both Leagues Cup games were fairly open, so I’m curious to see how Nico handles the more typical MLS grind-it-out low-block slugfests that NYCFC often struggles to break down. But so far, he looks really promising.

Couple other items.
  • Freese continues to have PK magic.
  • Tayvon seems good for 1 in on goal line breaking pass per game (if Alonso is also playing).
  • I know everyone wants more, but it was good to see Ojeda score. I thought he showed well overall in addition to the goal.
  • Nico - I hope these games are indicative. If so, credit to Lee.

I know mgarbowski has shown that Julian is far more productive than Ojeda but I still prefer Ojeda. His decision making is still often too slow but Ojeda plays within the offense while Julian is a one man show that inhibits the flow of our attack.
