MLS - August 7 - Toronto (Away)

#ronnyOut

no rotation vs chicago not only made us suck vs chicago but lose control of this game in the 2nd half.

our back line fell apart in the 2nd half. TFC subs added a lot more speed and energy and our tired backline/midfield couldn't handle it.

2 points. very disappointing after suck an amazing first half with beautiful goals.

Santi is a relevation! Hope we can keep him but many of you have already said he'll probably be gone if he keeps up with his performances. sad.

I think gray should have started. he kept soteldo under control from the moment he came on.

I wouldn't say anybody had a bad game. We just kinda fell apart and I really think that was due to being tired, physically and mentally.

ah well. onto the next.

They better get 3 against shitty Inter Miami or we riot.

when you are up 2 goals you limit transition opportunities, not let guys in behind your entire back line. Shameful.

Minor disagreement. Gray had a Soteldo that was 70 minutes into a game. Tinnerholm had him fresh at the start.

That noted, I have been impressed with Gray's cameos this season and would like to seem him give Tinnerholm a rest day here and there. But, I would prefer that everyone get a rest day here and there unlike Ronny who wants to run everyone into the ground.

We could be sitting in second place with 32 points and a game in hand on first place NE after playing two of the worst teams in all of MLS but…

On the other hand we didn’t lose to two of the worst teams in all of MLS so…

Is that what we’re to expect from NYCFC

I am sure to be in the minority, but that draw was fine. Toronto was back home for the first time in ages with a raucous crowd. Toronto has been a bogey team for NYCFC over the past few years (e.g., the draw earlier this season). Obviously, after the first half a win was the goal, but in a vacuum if a road draw at BMO was offered prior to the game I would have taken it.

(I would have accepted 7-0 also...)

I think gray should have started to give anton a break. Tinnerholm was tired. He was the reason the second goal happened. He was too slow to get up field and played akinola onsides. It's a lot to ask for a tired guy to go up against soteldo no matter how good he is. Gray has the energy and I think would have kept up with soteldo all game long. he didn't fall for any of his moves, which is great to see.

I yelled at Johnson after Toronto's first goal but on the whole he had a decent game.
We didn't dominate the first half nearly as much as the score hinted or people believed.
Our finishing was clinical, if you believe in that sort of thing.
We got a point we didn't deserve.

All that counterintuitive stuff said, when this team is up 2-0 -- deserved or not -- they should lock things down. It was probably the worst 30-45 minutes of team defense this season, and we're lucky DeLeon didn't score at the end.

Oh, and the ref killed us. 17 fouls to 6, and I do think it had an effect early in the second half when Toronto was extremely aggressive, made a lot of tackles that also knocked our players over (which was almost always a foul when we did it) and he just let them play on. That don't excuse our lack of energy, but it was not evenly called.

This didn’t age well.
Lol it didn’t? Just finished watching the game on replay. Good hold up play. Couple assists. And some AWFUL FUCKING decisions with the ball at the top of the box.

So what’s the excuse for this game to all the “were super deep” crowd on here?

Tie game. Our game changer is Andres Jasson. What exactly does that kid do well? He lacks pace. Hasn’t shown An ability to shoot from outside the box. He’s weak with the ball.

So I’m gonna go glass half full. We started our second unit and went up 2-0. Two really horrible lapses (Malte watching Laryea like the ghost of Mata) and took the foot off the gas 45-75’
Tor finally realized what every USMNT supporter knows and lo and behold, the game changes when they swap Jozy and Bradley out. I liked the Cacha for Sands same-same and I think Tayvon earned a rotation start. Santi was excellent through 45 but has to extend to 90 to make me forget Maxi. Malte was mostly good except that lapse — but that lapse was huge. Gu. di doesn’t make that mistake and that’s the kind of stuff that kept Ben Sweat in the 11 under PV. Also, best Match Morales has had yet.
We just needed to keep the foot on the pedal after the break. That’s the fail. Still confident that this is a great array of talent and we should expect to go deep in the playoffs.

Two assists and good ones. He was not the problem tonight. Poor defending/disappearing midfield 45-70 surrendered the points, not Taty.

I went to a movie tonight, in the theater saw we were up 2-0. Came back out, went to watch the highlights and was not at all surprised at the result I saw.

Never said he was the problem tonight, did I? Just reiterated that he’s a very good scoring Striker

After a great first half in which we, seemingly, played TOR off the pitch (our first goal should be a Goal Of The Week contender), it's clear what the team talk Peréz gave at the half was:

"We have nothing to lose. City will be overconfident. Come out aggressively, press, capitalize on mistakes and be bold."

I blame TOR's first goal entirely on whoever (Taty? I haven't had time to check) made the no-look pass to nobody inside our own half, causing a bad turnover with our defense out of position. It really grinds my gears when arrogant carelessness puts the team in unnecessary, dangerous positions.

Oh, and Chanot's clumsy shithousery was embarrassing. We're up 2-0, man. Don't fake an elbow to the head. Come on.

I disagree with the Ronny Out people, but their rationale has logic and sense to it and a connection to reality when they bring up rotations and squad usage and other things. But when someone complains every week and every game about the lack of a primary scoring threat on a team that leads MLS in goals per game, and we just scored 2 on the road when the league away goals average is 1.09 (and just 1.33 overall), but there was a complete defensive breakdown coming out of halftime, and especially focuses on the guy who had 2 assists as the problem, and this has all been pointed out before, I don't think anything you say or write can ever change his mind.
