MLS - August 7 - Toronto (Away)

Never said he was the problem tonight, did I? Just reiterated that he’s a very good scoring Striker
Correct, you didn’t say that Taty was the problem last night.

But saying that someone who hasn’t played striker “couldn’t be worse than Taty” (phrasing it like that instead of “he’d be better than Taty”) is going pretty damn far to criticize him.

Also, this was a much different Toronto team than they’ve had all year.

Haven’t seen them play even close to with this kind of energy they had last night. Glad we got a point out of it

Completely different team from the one playing for Armas in Orlando. Modestly tough break for us, but still should have done much better.

Also another reminder that good teams still drop points to bad teams.

Within the last month, Orlando has played Miami, Chicago, Toronto, and Cincinnati (with one of those at home) and took 3 total points.

Fire Oscar Pareja, right?

Philadelphia drew at home to Chicago, drew at Miami, drew at Chicago.

Fire Jim Curtin, right?

Seattle drew at home to Dallas and lost at home to San Jose.

Fire Brian Schmetzer, right?

Kansas City lost at home to Dallas, drew at home to San Jose, and drew at home to Austin.

Fire Peter Vermes, right?

I disagree with the Ronny Out people, but their rationale has logic and sense to it and a connection to reality when they bring up rotations and squad usage and other things. But when someone complains every week and every game about the lack of a primary scoring threat on a team that leads MLS in goals per game, and we just scored 2 on the road when the league away goals average is 1.09 (and just 1.33 overall), but there was a complete defensive breakdown coming out of halftime, and especially focuses on the guy who had 2 assists as the problem, and this has all been pointed out before, I don't think anything you say or write can ever change his mind.

With the chances we get every game, the guy leading the line should be at 12 goals right now

7/25 vs Orlando: could not watch
7/30 vs Columbus: could not watch
8/4 vs Chicago: watched entire match
8/7 vs Toronto first half: could not watch
8/7 vs Toronto second half: watched entire half

I can post my Venmo if anyone would like me to not watch Pumas

Well, the first half was fun, let's just talk about that?

Part of me hopes Chanot gets fined for embellishment after that horrid flop, trying to pass off getting hit in the arm as if he got nailed in the back of the head. Unnecessary and just looks absolutely embarrassing for himself and the team.

Felt like the game started to change after that part in the first half, as Toronto started to dig in the end of the 1st half as the game got scrappy. Their coach made the necessary adjustments and our team/coach weren't able to adjust until the 70th minute. My qualm is why it took so long (20-25 minutes) for the team to adjust/realize that Toronto were playing a different game at the start of the 2nd?

Enjoyed Santi, definitely has some real potential to take over for Maxi. Thiago snapping ankles was great, but wasn't able to contribute much else.

Agreed, that was quite embarrassing. And I felt like that took away from the fact that Soteldo karate chopped him in the arm and very deservedly picked up a yellow for it.

According to ASA, prior to Saturday evening, NYCFC had allowed 0 fast-break shots year-to-date. 0.

Saturday night they allowed 3, including 2 goals.

Santi was incredible. Maxi has been in decent form lately at the 10, but Santi plays it much differently and that was refreshing to see. It also makes me feel pretty comfortable (albeit very, very small sample size) that 1) we should be ok in the playoffs if Maxi were unavailable and 2) next year, forward, Santi could very well be the #10 for this team, and do it well.

Santi was really exciting and I think he can have an even bigger impact once his teammates get used to him. He had some really nice movement that didn't pan out because the pass was misplaced. Ideally it was more a familiarity issue than sloppy passing but given how the second half went for some of our players it's hard to say.

For the season before Saturday I get the same, but for Saturday I'm seeing 2 shots allowed and 1 goal conceded.

Also, I'm not sure of the criteria for fast break but I'm wondering why it doesn't include Shaffelburg's goal in the 1-1 TFC draw at Yankee Stadium in May:

Regarding Santi, I feel our press looked much stronger/disruptive with him out there vs. Maxi. Seemed like we were able to get decent turnovers and force bad passes (re: our 2nd goal) with the extra presser vs. having Maxi on the field. His speed and physicality were evident in numerous tackles and presses. I like him a lot now having seen him get a start.

Wasn't as involved in the 2nd half, but I don't think that was him. Our defense and midfield were unable to do anything to get the ball to him/Taty for most of the 2nd half. The lack of the ball being in Toronto's defensive 3rd of the field limited him from doing anything offensively or even the ability to press Toronto's backline.

Let's hope we can keep Santi on the roster next year through a perm transfer or another loan. Taty arrived in the same manner (on loan) and then we signed him the next season. Hoping the same for Santi as he seems like he will be a great replacement for Maxi and on a non-DP contract as well. That's win win.

i think we were tired and TFC's 2nd half subs added a lot more pace and energy to the midfield and front line. A huge difference over Bradley and Altidore. Like you said, we couldn't connect the backline to the front without playing long balls.

Interesting. I see that too now. They must have updated it from yesterday, taking away one of the goals (assuming the first one) as "fast break". I'm also curious as to what designates fast break.

The Revs have, um, wait, the Revs have…maybe that’s why they are running away with the Supporters Shield.

I looked at their games and they don’t have almost any really bad dropped points.

draw vs Chicago (at Chicago)
Loss to Nashville (at Nashville)
Tie to the Union (at Philly)
Loss to Dallas (at Dallas)
Tie to Columbus (at CLB)
Loss to Toronto (at Gillette)
Tie to Nashville (at Gillette)

only one “bad” loss to a bottom team. Guess Arena can keep his job.

we were upset about a draw with chicago.. so that would count as dropping against a bad team.

a loss to an early season dallas, who were struggling to find a win before they started their recent hot streak, is also dropping points to a bad team.
