MLS Cup Playoffs - November 29 - Miami (Away)

I thought hands to the face, head and/or neck was supposed to be an automatic red.
Was I absent the day they changed the rule?

Remember when MLS and Pro announced a point of emphasis for this season was that only the captain could approach and speak to the ref. I guess Miami has 5 captains because they all seemed to be allowed to get in the refs face whenever they want.

Drew Fischer is going to ref the final.
On the Sick Podcast, Glenn said either Fischer or Chris Penso should be officiating Inter Miami matches in the playoffs. "They're the only ones who can handle it," he said, or something to that effect. He lit Freemon on fire while he was at it, too.

The way the league allows the Miami stars to behave is absurd, putting their hands on players, constantly shouting at refs. The only ever response is a meaningless fine. In addition to the neck grabbing, Alba has gotten right in the face of the sideline ref in each of our matches as well. It's only gotten worse since Mascherano arrived, as he gets in on it alongside the rest of them. As Fake Jew pointed out, after the match, their behavior is so strange for a super team.

The final should be interesting. I suspect the entitlement and poor behavior will be ramped up even further, given the stakes. It would be nice to see the ref clamp down on it early, but I don't think there are many refs in the league with the stones to stand up to these petulant clowns.

It's a story as old as professional sports across the board. Big stars and star laden teams are not treated the same. Do you remember when the Knicks played Jordan's Bull's in the playoffs every year? Jordan could get away with murder but breath on him hard and he was going to the foul line. It's why I still think we should be using CFG's connections to bring in someone flashy instead of all the wiener kids.
