MLS Cup Playoffs - November 7 - Charlotte (Away)

Yeah it will be a paper-thin bench for the MF but if we somehow get past Philly, O'Neill will be back for the conference final.

As long as no one else gets suspended....

i don't think anybody is in danger of yellow card suspension. so hopefully no reds. cause we aren't gonna survive a chaotic and aggressive philly team down a man.

i like that the apple announcer referred to us as the pigeons. shows that he did at least a bit of research. all other announcers have called us the cityzens which just sounds wrong at this point.

Credit to Perea: In the post match one of the announcers mentioned Keaton Parks and I was shocked to realize how long it had been since I had even thought about him. He was so critical to our success and Perea has totally filled his shoes.

God speed Andres.

I don't know how this is possible -- in fact, I'm not sure I trust it -- but according to MLS's website, that is Maxi Moralez's first career assist in the postseason. He now has 5 goals and 1 assist in 21 postseason games. It seems hard to believe because I always feel like he brings his best in postseason games.
I can think of one off the top of my head. His assist on a free kick to Taty in the 2021 final.

I think he did it on purpose to wind up Zaha. Didn’t hit it with any pace, so not a red. Thought he might get away with it, probably.
I think O'Neil definitely did it on purpose. Players are programmed not to give the ball to the other team to set up for a free kick unless they are trailing and trying to speed up the game. NYCFC was ahead. O'Neil had every reason to push the ball further away from the spot of the foul to slow things down.

He knew what he was doing. It was stupid. He deserves the yellow.

Looking at our first goal again, I think Nico really made the right decision not to try to thread the pass to Alonso. The defender was defending for the pass, he put himself right in the passing lane, and there was a chance Nico's ball to Alonso would have either been too far or behind him. How often do we want a player to be selfish in a moment like that? It's brilliant if it works and dumb if it doesn't, but I think the pass was harder than taking it himself.

It was a really tough choice. But if his pass had the skill of his shot it would have found Alonso. That shot was a very very high degree of difficulty. Moment of brilliance.

Once he got past ream and saw Alonso sprinting, that was the time to pass it. Once ream recovered a bit his best option was to go himself. But taking it so far in and finishing from that angle definitely wasn't ideal. The fact that he did it twice is amazing.

If he keeps raising the level and wolf and maxi are on their games. We have a chance to beat anyone and the cup is not just a pipe dream. Even more impressive is he's doing this after a full season with elche..

Okay so
I yelped when we scored the first goal like a little child

At 2-0 I was like "okay just don't make stupid subs" and then he puts on Ojeda/Fernandez and I was very, very confused. But then Ojeda made that insane pass for the third goal and I have to take my hat off for that.

Perea injury was omg, why the heck did they show that on replay!!!

Very happy for the boys.

I'm flying out to England and coming back Sunday, so hoping the next game is after I come back.
