MLS - September 27 - Red Bulls (Away)

great win.

ojeda keeps getting better. he had multiple times where he was dribbling under pressure and still did not lay it off. his confidence is growing and hopefully he starts finding the back of the net with more opportunities to play. jansen has to start him even with martinez healthy, right?

martins was a rock today and as much as shit as we give him for being a DP CB, he saved our butts a lot tonight. Still don't think he or any CB should be a DP, but he showed his worth tonight.

i am liking the vibe of the team as we go to philly next week. will be amazing to win in chester too.

56 points with 2 games to go.
17 wins already is second most in NYCFC history.
56 points is already a top 3 season in NYCFC history - with a chance to crack 60 points for the second time.

what a first season for Pascal.

He should be coach of the year in MLS.

This team that was screaming for reinforcements in April and May has completely taken off since the reinforcements arrived. We are sneakily one of the best teams in MLS right now and have a legitimate chance to go on a run.

Either Berhalter or the San Diego manager will get it.

What a win.
The boys held on, but it was shakey-AF. RB second half was cutting through our flank like it was butter. That cross from the right into nobody marking forsberg... like 5 times.

Ojeda had his game of the season.
Martins had his game of the season.

We only give up that second goal bc I'm pretty sure Freese was concussed, I hope he's okay!

NY IS BLUE

Both are distinct possibilities. But I'm with ZYanksRule — I like our guy for it. It would have been a heck of a job to simply stop our regression this season, barely qualify for the playoffs, win a Wild Card and give a decent account of ourselves over Round One. But we're looking a lot better than that.

fixed it for you.

they are both going to raise to another level and lead us to the CUP!

No chance.

I'm now with Marito. SD is an expansion team with 50+ points. Philly has almost 30 more points this year than last. Vancouver has improved markedly. Pascal has done a tremendous job, but he will not win manager of the year.

After re-watching some of the game, I would like to mention that Perea was really fucking good tonight?

his aerial game was really good tonight. his header on the 3rd goal was so clean and incredible save from coronel. luckily our guys were more alert than they were.

perea drives me nuts with his inconsistency sometimes but he was good tonight.

Ok, if we're going to be that pedantic, then there are other coaches that Marito listed who should win coach of the year more than Pascal does.

I'm still thrilled with the job he's doing.
It's not pedantry (believe me, I hate it as much as anyone). Don't ascribe to me things I didn't say. I hate that even more.

Marito's list is a good one, though. And if you want to know who I think will win, it's Mikey Varas at San Diego. Taking an expansion team straight to the top of a conference is the kind of thing which is almost always good for hardware come awards time.

But I still like our guy for it. That's who I think should win. He hasn't just been successful; he's been transformative.

Proud of the guys for battling without Martínez and with Freese getting injured. Also, we had to battle some dodgy refereeing.
And exhaustion. Don’t forget that our guys had to battle that too. They looked so tired as the 2nd half drew to a close. They could barely keep up. Then when the fourth official flashed 10 minutes of stoppage…

What did people think of the collision with Freese? I was at a work event and only came home in the 75’. My kids told me it should have been a card, probably red.

When I looked at the replays, I couldn’t really tell anything. The angle was terrible, and I couldn’t find the point of contact.

He did have some studs showing, but not clear whether that matters.
