MLS Week 30 - 2019

Holy SHIT VAR screwed the Quakes tonight. Overturned a goal on a player millimeters offside and then reversed a clear pen. Unbelievable.

yup. they got robbed in my opinion. MLS decision day drama ... HEATING UP!

we essentially HAVE to beat or draw Philly on decision day to clinch 1st now. Even if we lose vs NE, if we win or draw vs Philly we have 1st (assuming Philly wins vs CLB, which they probably will? though CLB could be spoilers).

No.

If we beat or tie New England, we clinch.

OR

If Philadelphia ties or loses to Columbus, we clinch.

you're right. I got stuck on the thought of going into NE with maybe 5 players out and thinking it will be very difficult to come out of there with a point. If we do, we clinch.

That was some bizarre use of VAR against San Jose. Hoesen was just offsides but I don't see how he interfered with play as defined in the rules, and the PK reversal, oof!

MLS and PRO going to make NYCFC vs Philadelphia (on National TV) mean something. Let’s see what shit is pulled Sunday vs New England and at Columbus.

i thought they dont have flex schedule like NFL

Philly just went from Harrison NJ on Sunday to San Jose last night (presumably with a bus to Philly in between) and did not rotate (9 of 11 same starters). Now they head to Columbus for Sunday. We know they didn't charter. I'm curious about their travel now (1) flying to Philly today, practice tomorrow, and fly to Columbus Saturday with game Sunday, or (2) not to go home at all and spend the half week in hotels and practicing on borrowed fields. I'm guessing they're going home, and I think that's worse. No matter which: low rotation and cross country travel should mean a tired team.

Columbus was off last night. The Crew has not lost since we beat them August 21 and are 2-0-2 in the last 4 games. Our win is their only loss in the last 11 games going back to July 13. Columbus could do it for us. I've been impressed over the last few years how teams in MLS that are out of it fight to get results the last 2 weeks of the season. Even Houston this year, who I really though had given up, have managed 2 wins in the last 4 after 7 winless. Hell: Columbus just beat Atlanta in Atlanta. They can get a result here.

And they are eliminated from playoff contention, so while I don't expect Philadelphia to come into the game flat footed. A team with nothing to play for can be quite dangerous.

Yes, they do. They already flexed this Sunday's matches.

its their last home game and with new stadium buzz they may be inspired.

It was weird that last night the puzzling official calls were concentrated in 2 games and all went in favor of the visiting team.

Toledo and VAR in the Quakes game was by far the worst ref last night. Imho, quakes (and us) got robbed. that 2nd goal reversal gave philly new life and added frustration to the quakes.

More evidence for a centralized VAR staff in NY where all the calls go back to from all the games.

That's what's so interesting about VAR in the Premier League. The referee just says what the earpiece tells him to say. If players come up to argue, the referee tells them you're arguing with the wrong person. That being said, it does the referee having complete decision making in the game. Also, it allows for PRO and MLS do their PRO/MLS shit.
