In Serie A, Ultras are basically criminal gangs. Not only do they cause an unsafe environment at stadiums by throwing flares, smoke bombs, and stuff onto the field, they also control teams to a certain degree, and they attack and kill people.
These Ultra groups would never survive in the US because of the high security and strict laws at sporting arenas.
Whatever the definition of ultras might be (and there's no single one) there's no point in taking the name for a watered down version. Nobody is expecting the Third Rail to be ultra style maniacs either the aims should be creativity, some edginess (and the name is a good start compared to most alternatives) and to be the best fan group in the US. Of course that's probably not going to happen right away in a baseball stadium.
NYC Ultras talk a big game on their facebook, they took some shots at third rail and were clearly trying to act like tough guys......which is why i think we should just beat them up (JK...kind of)
As I posted on some other thread recently, the Atletico Madrid ultras clashed with the Deportivo ultras in Madrid last week and at least one Depor supporter was killed. Then yesterday 2 PSG fans were stabbed in Barcelona and the Barca ultras are being blamed. Ultras in Europe are no joke and, in addition to violence, are often extremely right-wing activists and racists.
But what does the 12 mean? I know it's the number of days left before the season starts, but their Twitter handle is @12NYC (it also has 12 favorites and sent at 11:12am - Illuminati?!)

After our small contingent's experience with some members of the Iron Lion Firm/Ruckus (cannot confirm which group they were a part of, but I would guess ILF if pressed, given their rep), I sincerely hope none of our fans resort to the kind of "tactics" (aka hooliganism) they displayed in Charleston on Saturday: vandalism, theft, threats of violence, and I think one actual act of violence (Hoya 14 posted in the megathread that an Orlando supporter punched an NYCFC supporter during the pre-game tailgate). This is probably overly optimistic, but I am all for the bulk of stand up supporters divorcing themselves from these kind of supporters, who seem to only be into soccer/football for the opportunity to instigate violence with opposing teams' supporters. I know I do not want to be associated with that element at all. And I know that, to a certain extent, I now associate Orlando supporters with violent, childish acts, even if the majority of them do nothing of the sort.
That's their thing. They do violence. They got in big trouble for beating up a kid in a match against their rival, the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
I thought about going to Orlando for the first match, but decided against it because I was concerned about the violence.
We'll have to see what CP_Scouse has to say about this lol
