NASL has lost D2 sanction.

And now Jacksonville has announced that they intend to play soccer sooner than the new NASL calendar and will consider a D3 league. So that pretty much torpedos the “irreparable harm” part of NASL’s lawsuit

what D3 league? there is none....unless they mean NPSL which technically is not D3 and an amateur league not pro.

no US open cup participation from them? I still want that win vs cosmos

Some of the folks reporting on the press conference were using "D3" as an identifier, but I agree it's not clear what D3 league is going to exist in 2018

“The most important thing is that the Armada plays,” he said.

Palmer said he is having conversations with “multiple leagues” and plans to make the decision in the next three or four weeks.

Palmer specifically mentioned the National Premier Soccer League and United Premier Soccer League, which are not fully professional, as well as the National Independent Soccer Association, a proposed league headed by former Major League Soccer and NASL executive Peter Wilt.

Though those leagues lack second-division status, which the NASL held until the U.S. Soccer Federation denied to renew that status in September, Palmer said that’s not critical to the franchise’s success.

The NASL has no one to blame but themselves for this utter train wreck...... How ironic the first NASL commisioner was willing to work with MLS and put teams in small markets not on MLS radar and not compete in the same markets as mls and try to find their way via small markets and a sound business plan...

The NASL put themselves on a train wreck course and here they are today on the edge of OBLIVION.... Say what you will of the road bumps US Soccer might have thrown at NASL... the FACT remains NASL FAILURE is 90% SELF INFLICTED.... but some how their IDIOTIC fans dont want to accept these facts..... Now they can
-try to get an appeal to the injunction decision heard at a higher court
-go back to the original court and address USSF's motion to dismiss the case, which if it failed would move the case towards discovery and trial
-pursue a settlement with USSF
-put this case on hold while they pursue their other suits

Long story short, another battle lost by NASL but the war continues as long as they're willing to keep paying lawyers. Given that Rocco's worth over $4 billion, that could be a very long time

but do the teams/ players have the time to just be inactive until a resolution is met? or are they all going to do this rogue league that is being thrown around recently.

The clubs are either joining USL or lower leagues, establishing "secondary" teams in those leagues, or sitting around waiting for the NASL season that's allegedly starting in August to get on the summer to spring calendar. I think that generally the players are being transferred or going to the B teams, the Cosmos have been letting contracts expire and transferring players.

“The NASL announced that it has canceled the 2018 Season after failing to receive a preliminary injunction preventing the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) from revoking the NASL’s Division II status.

On September 1, 2017, the USSF’s Board of Directors took a decision to revoke the NASL’s Division II status jeopardizing the future of the league and its member clubs. On September 19, NASL filed an antitrust suit in Federal Court in the Eastern District of New York seeking a preliminary injunction to preserve the NASL’s Division II status while the Court considers the underlying claims. On November 4, the District Court denied the NASL’s motion for a preliminary injunction and on February 23, 2018, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed the District Court’s decision.

NASL Interim Commissioner Rishi Sehgal issued the following statement: “The focus of the antitrust suit to date has been obtaining a preliminary injunction to save the 2018 Season. Unfortunately, with USSF’s decision and the loss of the preliminary injunction, playing the 2018 Season is no longer a possibility. The focus of the antitrust suit now shifts to securing the long-term advancement of soccer in this country, not only for the NASL, but for all soccer fans, clubs, and communities impacted by the USSF’s restrictions on competition. Also, the NASL is prosecuting a breach of fiduciary duty action against certain USSF Board members for conflicts of interest and derelictions of duty which have harmed the NASL and countless other constituents in U.S. Soccer. The NASL and its clubs will look at all avenues to return to the field for the 2019 Season.”

During the NASL’s hiatus from competition, three NASL members, the Jacksonville Armada FC, Miami FC, and New York Cosmos, will be fielding teams in the National Premier Soccer League with play scheduled to begin on April 15, 2018.”
 
Based on the NPSL’s qualification process for the US Open Cup (prior year results), the Cosmos entity to be named later is presumably not going to get a shot at the US Open Cup

i believe its true, also considering the rule that if a team "changes leagues" they are not eligible.
 
At least the team will still play in NPSL. Think they will join NISA whenever that happens. Hopefully NISA doesnt hire idiots like Bill Peterson.

It’s refreshing to see that there isn’t a lot of celebrating on this forum about today’s announcement.

It’s not a day to celebrate. A lot of people no longer have jobs because of the way things have gone down over the last 9-12 months. San Fran wins NASL and they fold, Miami FC made a great run in the US Open Cup and now their league folds, Cosmos fans must be crushed.....
