Definitely an interesting profile, but I get the sense from the fact he left Mumbai when he was so successful that he wants to be in Europe. Would he be more like Ronny Deila, who always had his eyes on returning to Europe? Maybe we can have success with him for a year or two, but I don't get the sense he's sticking around for a long time and I'm kind of sick of rotating managers every 2 years or fewer when we always struggle with a new manager and it takes half a season to get into rhythm. It worked with Ronny where he won MLS Cup before he left and maybe it would work with Des, but that's a risk.

We are about to hire our 6th coach in our 11th MLS season -- my preference is for a coach who wants to be here long-term. It's why I'm intrigued by Gio Savarese.
I agree with the stability piece. We need someone who will succeed and be here for a while.

Ditto. I'm not sure Savarese is the guy. But whoever it is, I want them to take the job, at a minimum, with the intent to see us through our first full year in our own park. Beyond that would be better still.

To make that gigantic monitor part of the set lol.

So Nick, we will have you stand over here so it looks like you've just barely stepped out from behind this giant screen. I'll be over here with my laptop open like I'm waiting for an urgent email and we can just shout questions back and forth at each other like it's 2020 and we are just sorting out this whole social distancing thing.

Interview at Daily Mail (h/t HRB).

It’s really interesting to me that he keeps popping up in the media. Maybe it’s because we’ve never had an English manager or that he’s a known name because of his time with Man City women, but he’s really putting himself out there. Feels a bit desperate to be honest. Hope he finds something desirable soon.

He's definitely putting himself out there, and he's saying all the right things too, not burning any bridges or leaving a bad taste in anyone's mouth. Just taking his lumps and moving on. Smart. He learned a thing or too navigating through CFG.

I feel bad for Cushing. He was given the weakest rosters in the clubs history outside of year 1. The striker situation during his entire time was a mess and he figured out a solution with Martinez. He positioned Jones to potentially be rookie of the year pre injury. I think he sacrificed development of cfgs farm system prospects for results and he paid the price for it. If you give him 1 out of 3 u22 prospects that is ready to start from day 1, and 1 DP difference maker level player or even Jones not getting hurt and I think Nick is still here.

I hope I'm wrong but unless upgrades are coming (which I don't think they are) my bet iis that Pascal does the same or possibly worse next season.

He really had a lot to complain about publicly (and privately) but never did - he was always polite and respectful to the mothership when wrongfully taking the burden of the blame. Can’t say the same about the other managers (PV, Dome, etc) who took the opportunities to let it be known when they were unhappy with the lack of roster support and inaction during windows etc.

how well pascal does depends greatly on his ability to develop young talent. we have plenty of young talent but cushing never developed them to a level where he could trust them to produce when he needed it. then again, cushing wasn't known as a coach that develops young players. pascal is coming in with that reputation, so we'll have to see if he's got what it takes.

having jones back on the wing will be huge. hopefully he hasn't lost a step. that kid is so positive and seems mentally very strong, so i am optimistic he's coming back even better. gets me excited for the season to start thinking of him and martinez running in behind like nobody's business and then santi and parks running the midfield with possession and creativity.

I'm thinking along the same lines. Pascal is going to have a lot to work with.

And just for the heck of it, what if we've caught lightning in a bottle again with Prince Amponsah the way we did with Malachi? If he announces himself at left center back and frees Haak up to play the Sands role, we could be seriously in business.
