NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

No need to go all Chris Hansen. These aren't random kids, these are future potential professional NYCFC players. Football and Basketball recruiting and scouting of middle school/high school players is a multi-million dollar industry in the USA.

I mean it would be pretty sick to see supporters show love to the future of this team

I'm not sure any video could have made my point about creepy any better.

Any way to follow the game? Stream, twitter, etc.?

You'll probably have to find the number of a parent up there or maybe a coach and have them text you updates.

EDIT: I tweeted at Rachel Bonnetta who is at Gillette Stadium for the Revs game tonight. Maybe she can help.

Explain this like I'm 5. What makes City's academy so different than most others?

Basically, MCFC spent £200m (more than the original cost of the stadium) on creating an all-in-one training facility with 16 pitches, its own 7,000-seater stadium, its own sixth form college (i.e. a school for the qualifications you take in the two years before going to University), community facilities and player accommodation for the u-21s and u-18s, including places for player parents to live (permanently, not just as a hotel) if the kids came from out of the area. The whole thing is set up so that the kids right down to the lowest level get the same access as the first team squad get - they even eat in the same dining rooms at the same times, use the same gym, etc.

Melbourne City just spent AUS$15m building their own paired-down version, although suggestions are it may be extended, though its worth mentioning that I'm pretty sure that their player development system only extends as far down as u-20 level. That said, I believe the Australian youth development model works a little bit differently, with the majority of players spending their teenage years at a state-level developmental "Institute of Sport" before graduating and being able to sign for professional teams.

Obviously the result matters little, I hope they won with attractive possession style soccer.

Very timely blog post for us:http://www.brotherlygame.com/2015/9/3/9242267/homegrown-player-rule-major-league-soccer-visual-guide

What if a kid is from Albany or buffalo can we get him or he chooses or is he out of luck?

I believe the way it works is that we can sign up a small number of kids outside our academy zone. Red Bulls have two exceptions so I would guess we have two exceptions as well.

Interesting but I guess system can be improved upon. I mean who knows if academies are missing out on players because they are not part of "territories"

Since when is Claudio a problem? There's no evidence of that

Letting Kreis use the first expansion draft pick on Ned Grabavoy. Letting Kreis let all those RSL players into the NYCFC roster. Not pushing hard enough for a younger DP.

There's not a whole lot of concern now, but it can be problematic in the future. However, yes its more CFG's fault in stars over support.
