NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

New York City FC travels to the Capital this weekend for a second and final Regular Season meeting with D.C. United.

I can't figure out what's really going on down there because there is a separate tournament in Dallas at the same time, and we are doing well in the U-19s, having beaten Liverpool. I think some of our better U-17 guys are playing in that one. Or is it the same tournament and a different age division? Who can tell?

Its really weird. For the past few years all of the attention has been on the U-19 tournament which was considered the premiere youth tournament in the country. During qualifications MLSsoccer.com was treating it the same way and now the U19 tournament isn't even mentioned while all the press is on the U17 and even U15 tournament.

Our U19s are in the semifinals tonight at 7 against Villareal and are the only MLS team left in the tournament. I have a seder and havent checked but there might be a stream available.

I am curious what the back story is here -- or am I confused and there is another big U19 tournament later in the year?

i think i got it, the U17 is playing in the GA Cup which is not part of the Dallas cup.This is the annual tournament they do which includes MLS teams and international invites. They have qualifiers for this in the fall and i think february.

Now the U19 is playing in the Dallas cup, which is totally separate from GA Cup (which is all sponsored by MLS, i think). the dallas cup is traditional big international youth tournament that happens every year and its on its 40th year.

technically two different tournaments happening at the same time in the same city, i guess with MLS they felt like having same time as dallas cup, as it may be less cost to them.

Why is this night different from all others.... because on this night I sit relaxed ignoring the reading of the Haggadah with my phone streaming the academy match under the table.

Villareal 3- NYCFC 2
Went behind 3-1 and were playing catch up most of the game. Haak with a goal and a header assist. Tigres seem like the favorite in the final if only due to the lack of maturity from the Spaniards. Only got to see half of the game. "Technical difficulties" suddenly popped up for Univision's advertised stream of the game, even though NYCFC- Villareal was immediately following the spotless streaming of the game with two Mexican Academy teams.

Of note: Owusu and Benalcazar did not seem to be rostered, both took part in some of the preseason training earlier this year. Both defensive players
