Nycfc V Brøndby

Good reality check. Got to work on defensive aspects, specially.

Can't wait to see Poku, Taylor and Villa in the same XI. Those are the three guys that have honestly surprised me a lot in these two games.

They looked better toward the end. Especially Poku and Taylor

As I said in the chat box, had we left Velasquez and Villa on to play with Taylor, Mullins, and Poku we would have at least pulled one back.

Brondby are much better side, in mid-season form, and made fewer changes throughout the match, so it was always going to be difficult.

Poku and Taylor were the two that impressed me as well. I think Facey would be a good signing in the centre of defence, or at right back where I think he'd be a better option than Brovsky or Williams on this weeks showing.

I was disappointed not to see Shelton, him and Taylor on either side of a centre forward could be a real handful.

Overall, not disgraced but the tougher opposition maybe showed up a few in the squad more than Tuesday.

Left with 10 minutes to go (it's my third game this weekend which has gone down well) but I'm quite impressed with how solid the team looked.

Brondby are a much better side than St Mirren and exposed the defence when they stepped up their game however we more than matched them and it's clear that he's mixed the teams over the two games and we've not seen the true starting XI.

Everyone seems quite composed on the ball, if they learn to release it quicker, utilise the width more and sure up the defence on the counter it should be a great season.

Overall, I think the people of NYC are getting a better team coming back to the US than the one that left it.

My impressions from the match:

Positive - Taylor and Poku both impressed again; Mullins was better; Seba Velasquez was dangerous on the ball again; Mendoza does indeed look like a long free kick specialist

Negative - Mix looked disjointed but he's been practicing with the team only a few days and he played deeper than I expected; Brovksy looks too slow to be a starter unfortunately; Hernandez didn't play well either but it was his first action; we didn't play wide very much especially when compared to all the overlapping fullback play of the St. Mirren match; I'd say that was largely a result of the fact that we couldn't control the midfield; Dunn doesn't seem ready for a large role; Ballouchy tried to get involved more in the late 2nd half but he's not a player who can really assert himself without help

Overall there were some positives but we just gave possession away too often and too easily. More time together on the pitch will certainly help because cohesiveness is what was missing the most. For me Taylor was again the man of the match with Poku again 2nd.

Good game to see where our weakness is. Saunders looked shaky again. Tried to go up the middle more where in the first game they used the wings more. Over powered almost every time they went up the middle. Still for a brand new team nots of hope and with training and practice and time together will be a tight squad.

I want Poku and Taylor in the starting 11.
I get that you don't want to put your best players in the 11 in these friendlies because you want balance in both halves but I really hope we see the two of them alongside villa and Mix.
Missed the game. But the parts I did see they really impressed.

Mix was a bit disappointing in the match but he has just come on and likely just needs time with the team.

If he can be the deep-lying playmaker with bite, alongside Poku with Velasquez just ahead of them roaming around the pitch, Villa and Taylor are going to bag plenty of goals.

I can't imagine why Poku and Taylor wouldn't make the starting 11. They've been impressive so far.

Wingert and Saunders look really sluggish at times.
Mendoza and KWS shouldn't be paired. They're too similar. A smaller quicker FW will give them fits.
You can't play Williams and Wingert at the same time because that's begging to be abused wide. I'd rather have Brovsky playing LB with Williams at RB.
Mix played a little too deep IMO but he just needs to build chemistry with the squad.
Jacobsen has been playing well but ideally I want Poku to start.
Poku looks good but sometimes he tries to do too much and gets in sticky situations. He needs to optimize his decision making and release the ball quicker.
Like what I've seen from Tian.
Ned fouled more today but that's a result of them winning the MF battle.
This led to Villa being a ghost early on but once he dropped more and got involved, the attack was better.
Nemec was active, had a good chance on the Villa cross, looked less rusty. Just needs more practices and game time to build chemistry with Villa and the rest of the team.

Overall this was a good test. Very obvious mistakes were made that cost us but they were due to form and fitness. Lots of positives, a couple guys shined so I'm excited for Charleston. Bring on Disney fc.

My thoughts are similar to everyone else. Poku and Taylor were good. Sebastian was dangerous. Brandt is awful. Saunders is mediocre at best.
