"Mmmmm, smells like my Neddie"

ok so im watching a replay of the game tonight here in Australia. Over here its shown on BEIN Sports.

They have two english guys as commentators. I only caught the first name of one of the commentators as Stuart.

Anyone have any idea who they might be ?

Anyway Stuart made the observation just after half time that Kreis was being out coached by Klopas and that he was amazed he hadnt made any subs at half time.

These two commentators definitely knew what they were talking about and i thought it was pretty clear that they werent impressed by Kreis.

I have been a huge Kreis supporter all season, but that game was ridiculous. The last 20-30 minutes of Orlando with Mix, Pirlo and Poku was great attack and not so great defense. He sees that and tweaks the lineup so that we have a stale attack without players creating and using space and takes out our fastest center back when we play against lone striker Odoru who is one of the fastest guys in the league. Mix has played as true 6 in place of Beckerman for the USMNT. If the Coach is worried about our defensive shape with Pirlo on the field, then play Mix in the 'Jacobson' role, don't put him on the bench. Poku stretches defenses and creates space with his runs (he didn't get 3 assists because he passes like Pirlo).

With the talent we have we should be competing for trophies -- that means not getting knocked out in the first round of the US Open Cup and grabbing a playoff spot where we have a chance to go on a run and win the Cup.

If and when we don't win. I expect to be playing attractive, flowing, possession-based soccer creating dangerous chances that is fun to watch, not the stagnant, kick it up to Villa and have him try to beat 4 defenders we saw yesterday -- in one of the most important games of the season.

That was terrible terrible coaching yesterday. You have Pirlo and you have players who can make Pirlo look good. Put them on the field.

Absolutely shocking and embarrassing. Kreis absolutely stunned me with his line up choices but we're not surprised by any of that by now since he's been pulling this shit since the beginning. After last weekends awesome 5-3 win against Orlando you would have thought that we finally hit that stride and he would leave the line up the same but to put in Grabavoy when you had Poku and Mix sitting on the bench is absolutely atrocious. Villa was lazy yesterday and spent more time offside than he did with the ball, only in the second half when Kreis brought on Poku and Mix did NYCFC actually try to do something. I know I'm not the only one that will say that Kreis needs to be canned because it's absolutely pathetic and embarrassing what happened yesterday at Yankee Stadium. Hernandez was atrocious, Mena had a decent game but it's only his second game (first full 90), so he need's to get used to his surroundings. I hope the higher ups finally grow a set of balls and throw something at Kreis that will have him shitting his pants and actually do something or just quit because I'm sick of this fuck ruining this team.

Also pointing out Calle played at RM which is out of position just so he could squeeze Grabavoy in at LM unreal.
I know the team sheet doesn't show it but I only saw calle playing down the right and Grabavoy/Mac on the left.

The Jacobson/ pirlo combination that we talked about all week was a predictable failure. Jacobson did not destroy anything, he wandered around without a position. Pirlo was picking the ball up behind the centerbacks. So we were basically playing 9 on 11 since grabavoy did nothing, except fall over five times. Even the ref was laughing at him when he looked for a foul.

And kreis made the comment that he didn't need to correct pirlo all week and probably never will? So he doesn't know how to coach stars. Clueless Kreis, even pirlo needs to be told how to work with your system.

Tom, I disagree. Kreis needs to change his system now that he has Pirlo (and Lampard) to fit the skill set of his players. That is what good coaches do. They make winning adjustments during games and between games.

Did Rox make some changes? SG seemed a little more organized. Kudos to them with the heat.

I didn't make any changes. I was moving around the entire SS and watching and learning. I spoke to security in the area and introduced myself. That's it. It was FANTASTIC to have no smoke and no ejections. That was dope.

I'm not sure we disagree. Whether or not you change the system, you still can't be afraid to tell pirlo what to do.

I've had some time to think and here's my conclusion. Kreis may be an exceptional coach 6 days a week. He may even be a great coach on certain game days. But there is remarkable evidence that he makes colossal errors too. He's kind of like Saunders perhaps. He looks good when circumstances favor his strengths. But when his weaknesses are put to the test ...

Yesterday Saunders faced his biggest weakness - how/when to come out of goal. And he gave up multiple goals because of this indecision. When Saunders has lost us games it has been because he has charged into and then stopped in the middle of no man's land. He did that twice yesterday.

Kreis is similar. He charges into bad ideas and then sticks with them. He's like a mad inventor. What if we could build a flying machine? Wright brothers. Brilliant. Chickens can fly. What if we put a massive chicken head on top of an airplane? Wouldn't that make it better? Mad inventor. Idiot.

This is Kreis.

Enough has been said about Grabavoy. A few points on the CBs.

He played Mena with Hernandez. As has already been pointed out, he benched his fastest CB and played a high line against one of the fastest strikers in the league. How can you justify this? Let's think about this in the larger context.

CBs need time to get to know one another. So consistency is critical. There are only two possible CB pairings for us for the rest of this year - Facey/Mena or Facey/Hernandez. We do not march into our first playoff game with Mena/Hernandez. Facey may be gone next year, but for this year he is our #1 CB.

So game time is your opportunity to give him gelling time with whoever else he is going to partner with. So what do you do if you are Kreis? You experiment with a pairing that should never see the light of day barring injury. Some might claim it was Facey's turn to rest. But he's 20. Young man doesn't need rest. Especially not without midweek play.

Kreis gets a chicken head on an airplane idea and no one on his coaching staff or in upper management has the ability or the authority to convince him that his chicken head on top of an airplane will be a wind drag and likely make the plane go down in flames.

Pirlo doesn't adjust to the system, the system adjusts to Pirlo.

Coaches in all sports like to act as if only a genius can winning. Einstein is a genius. Hawking - genius. Outsmarting yourself to show that you were once the "best" coach in MLS is not genius.

The talent is now there, so no excuses... make it work. Even if we don't win, I rather go down with Mix starting, Poku off the bench and never seeing Grabs again than what happened yesterday.

If your defense is going to suck at least try to score as many goals as possible. How can we have no offense for 60 minutes (passing backwards is not offense), but score twice in the last 30 after the subs came on? Last week we scored 3 times in 35 minutes once all our best players played. At least give your team a chance.

This should be the gameplan for the rest of the season: we are going to score 5-6 goals per game... we dare you to score 7. Look mom, now I am a genius too!

Thank you. When I wrote my post late last night, I tried to articulate what Saunders did wrong yesterday. It's actually pretty simple and you got it exactly.
