I was going to make a comment about the underlying tone again tarnishing some reasonable thoughts/analysis but, well, I guess I just did that.

Can save everyone on the board from reading the article - his point is "NYCFC didn't sign a 'big enough name star' DP for NYC."

There are so many things wrong with this article.
First, he beats the tired old horse of comparing him to Giovinco. Moralez doesn't have to be a Giovinco (TOR needs Giovinco to dominate games because their other 2 DPs are either wildly inconsistent (Altidore) or not an offensive threat (Bradley).
Then, he compares him to LA and Giovani dos Santos/Chicharito - 1) NYCFC isn't trying to cater to any specific fan group like Gio and Mexican fans, and 2) this team already has Pirlo and Villa on it...nuff said.
Finally, he questions whether Moralez will be "big enough" when Pirlo and Villa leaves...you know what brings fans back? WINNING.

Some of that does ring true though. We expect superstars in NYC. It's way Henrik Lundqvist and Carmelo Anthony are still here and why A-Rod was brought in. In a city with Broadway and Derek Jeter, you have to stand out is the approach.

If you spend $1 Million on Maxi, then spend $2 Million on Gio. I get that too

I also think that the other guys he mentions aren't going to bring people to the stadium just because of who they are. Quintero, Nasri and Khedira may have more name recognition than Maxi, but I can't see anybody who isn't otherwise interested deciding to go see NYCFC simply because Sami Nasri is playing other than MAYBE the odd Arsenal fan who remembers his glory days.

The universe of players who are draws in and of themselves irrespective of how they play and how their team is performing is really small. Once you aren't signing one of those guys or are deciding you don't want to sign one of them because they tend to be older guys, then I suspect all that matters is whether the particular player makes the team win.

It was a really silly article.

Agreed, I thought that line was gross for several reasons. His articles just bleed with bias, and any rational thought (where you can find it) just gets lost.

That line was particularly ridiculous. While I didn't think the James Horncastle commentary was as insightful as I would have hoped, he's one of the best English speaking experts I've encountered on Italian football. I was psyched to see he'd written on Moralez, though I wish it would have been more substantive.

I honestly don't follow any so called NYCFC writers besides Crooks, and then the accounts that post here like NYCFCfan. Araos, Hudson River Blue, Chavez (he's at least alright), and the like all blow.
