Official: Maximiliano Moralez signs as 3rd DP

I wonder what Lodeiro, Diaz, Piatti, Valeri were priced at after they signed but before they played their first MLS game.

The hate/pessimism on these boards for Maxi has been remarkable. You want lesser known quantities, they are going to come with some uncertainty. I can't wait to see him lace up. COYBIB!

Per Transfermarkt right before they moved to MLS teams:
Lodeiro: $5m
Diaz: $800k
Piatti: $1.5m
Valeri: $2m

I haven't looked at all as to how those guys performed prior to moving to MLS. Lodeiro and Diaz are much younger, so those valuations are probably not as great to compare to Maxi's (just assuming at that point in their career you would expect their valuations to appreciate, as opposed to later).

Looks like Valeri was 27 when he came into the league and Piatti was 29, so Piatti may be the better comparison. But again, I haven't looked into how he was performing prior to moving to Montreal.

Honestly, as I have said, with hindsight those are exciting signings, but in real time they were promising signings of players who weren't superstars, not many international caps, and weren't even players most MLS fans had regularly seen play. There would have been anxiety on the Forums had we now signed those type players with their value at those particular times. Lodeiro is on the higher end of that list, with international caps (albeit most years ago), though, again, not by any means a "superstar", with similar (and, in fact, for the most part a lower) MV than Maxi.

Lodeiro was on part time player at Boca Juniors. Boca Juniors was trying to sign Maxi before NYC step in. For those who don't know who Boca Juniors really is google them.
If he is good enough to play at Boca Juniors he is sure good enough to play at NYC.

Bravo was from Boca Juniors and he didn't really set the league on fire. He had only made 34 appearances for them but it still seems like a stretch to say a connection to Boca Juniors automatically means a player will be good in MLS.

Bravo was from the Boca Juniors academy hardly play at Boca with the first team and rarely made the bench. Bravo is a very aggressive/borderline dirty with limited offensive skills from speaking to people that follow Boca they told me not to expect too much from Bravo.
