Is it troubling that Dome Torrent, Vieira, and now Deila all seem to want no part of a return to CFG, or at least NYCFC? Hopefully it's just universal or superficial stuff, such as the North American travel times, MLS rules quirks, etc. rather than something deep or systemic about us...

What makes you think Ronny and Patrick want no part of a return to CFG/NYCFC? Ronny and Patrick both went back to Europe. Ronny is maybe coming back to MLS, but there's no reporting or reason to think we would want to bring him back.

60 days until opening day on February 22.

For comparison, in 2020 the first game was CCL on 2/20, first MLS game was March 1, and Deila was hired January 6 (47 and 54 day gaps, respectively).

On the other hand, after steamrolling an overmatchedSan Carlos team in 2 CCL games, NYCFC lost 3 consecutive matches by 0-1 scores (Columbus, Toronto, Tigres) before Covid hit.

On the gripping hand, what's the evidence there's any cause and effect there?

Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah!

Actually, I think you're correct. Our losing streak was a direct contributor to Covid.

I believe Sims's quote to Glenn Crooks was that the coaching staff returns to the building around January 11, so he wanted to have them ready by then. Unless we're hiring an American, we'll need to have the coach get his visa so that's why he wanted the hiring done by Christmas.

Hopefully we get some intel soon, because training camp begins in under a month.

We went this long with no announcement so this probably means it will be international manager, or at least not someone that was in MLS recently.

I'm just going by the assumption that since the new guy is going to be another CFG underling who was signed, sealed and delivered as soon as Cushing got axed they're in no particular rush to make any sort of announcement.

There doesn't have to be an announcement for them to start the visa process, so I definitely think it's possible they've made a decision and will announce it later or after the holidays.

I forget who it was, but there was a player we signed recently who we didn't announce until after he already had his visa and was available. Wonder if we do that with the coach.

Who’s this?

Former player, current Man City U-16 coach, and has zero first-team coaching experience. It would be a shocking hire but nothing is out of the realm of possibility, this is the org that dropped $23M on 18-year-olds too raw to even win a starting spot after a full year with the team. CFG loves their yes-men insiders and they have a bunch of expensive teenagers that need development so maybe U-16 experience is just what they are looking for.
