Quakes Postmatch

Biggest gripes:

1. Not enough movement off the ball.
2. Hernandez can't carry the ball when everybody else is marked. He'd dribble and stop and pass back to Brillant, whereas RJ takes the ball to the box if given the opportunity. Martinez takes it to the endline for a cross. Why is Hernandez in there unless it's to kill the forward momentum?
3. Too many touches in final third. Villa and Frank missed shooting opportunities because they wanted additional touches - all game. Just rip first time.
4. Pirlo made a lot of no-look passes that went to nobody. (see #1 above). makes me wonder if guys weren't moving to where they were supposed to be?
5. When 1-v-1 with the keeper, Villa & Mendoza need to consider pushing the ball around the keeper for a clean shot and not hoping to sneak it in far post every time - their shots were badly off.
6. What the hell was Saunders thinking when he came so far out of the net and wasn't in position to play the ball? That should have been the game there if Wondo didn't choke again. BTW, I called it that he'd shoot 3 over the bar.
7. Somebody hire Frank a new personal trainer.... the guy needs to work on his fitness so he can be involved all game. At times it seemed like he was auditioning for the role of Casper the Friendly Ghost.

One footnote - someone needs to coach Brillant not to raise his one hand when he flinches at a shot in the box. We got lucky the ball hit the tucked arm. He does that every time.

My big takeaways.
  • Jack is a completely different threat with an attacking RB. With never an overlap, the double/triple team on him kept him mostly bottled up.
  • Mendoza is a very good offensive sub for us. He has a few things to learn - defensive intensity, using his speed to get past the keeper as Ulrich Ulrich mentioned - but he has been dangerous both of the last two games. More time on the pitch and he will bury more of those chances.
  • I think our luck is now about even on the season. That's another game when we got more points than we deserved. I'll take it. But I think we'll need to earn our points from here on.
  • Finishing boots. We didn't wear them. Thinking of clear chances for Jack, Frank and Mendoza. We've won a bunch of games this year against the run of play because we've simply taken better advantage of a smaller number of chances. Last night we had the smaller number, but we didn't finish as we usually do.

Damn lucky to get a point.

I thought San Jose had a great gameplan for defending us. Doubling Harrison was super effective. It also really exposed Jason Hernandez at fullback experiment. The lack of an overlapping fullback is really what allowed them to double him with no recourse. If we had RJ Allen overlapping on that right side, it would have opened up that side.

Saunder's was Schrodinger's goalkeeper. He could have lost and won us the game at the same time.

Why didn't Mendoza just go around Bingham? His lack of runs/bad runs really hurt us in the endgame.

Would love to have Bingham as a play out of the back goalkeeper.

also blue jerseys vs blue jerseys should be a human rights violation. mls needs to force teams to carry a third jersey if both their primary and secondary are the same color.

I didn't find it hard to watch at all. Light blue against white is harder, especially in sunlight.

Since there was confusion and disagreement over this beforehand, for the record right now less than 12 hours after the national Unimas game ended MLS Live is letting me watch the condensed version but not full on both my computer and phone.

I know many have mentioned it already, but we need RJ back on the right. Cut the crap with him at LB and get Hernandez out of the game. Hopefully Mata is back next week, but if not, it has to be Diego there.

And I'm not saying this only to get RJ back at his natural RB position and to get Hernandez out of the game. RJ is complete shit at LB. I thought he was or worst player last night.

Lucky to get 1 point last night, did not play very well.

Chanot is everything I hoped he would be. I spent some time watching him off ball and the communication he does constantly taking command of the back line is great. He also had some great recoveries after Brillant made mistakes.

My suspicions/neuroses/fears are going haywire on the Matarrita situation. I said that whomever mentioned the injury thing calmed them, but it was a temporary balm.

I don't have a particular explanation, but like I said, my spidey senses are all tingly. Maybe I have confirmation bias, but I believe that I don't get them incorrectly very often. I really hope I'm wrong.

definately but there are a pretty sizable portion of especially the male population that are color blinded. its a reasonable accomodation.
