Sorry Max Power , I hit reply and your text was embedded with my previous quote so didn't show up and on my mobile so can't copy/paste....

Anyway, TMac is great when he's on and streaky otherwise - he blew two breaks today that should have been easy scores. I like the guy but he's disappears and makes bad decisions when the obvious play is something else. If not for his every once in a while wunderkind-type goals, that are incredibly lucky, he wouldn't have the aura.

That penchant for creating those magic moments would make him a great super sub. I agree I don't want him out there for the full 90 and hope we can upgrade. But I really like him for 20 minutes if we need some magic at the end of the match. I think his game is better geared towards that then Mendoza.

Lampard didn't have his best game, but he makes everyone else better. One major moment I thought he made the wrong decision on that time when he was in on goal and decided to dump it off to Villa who forced a corner. I thought if Lampard took one more touch outside he had a shot on goal. But he was still good.
He did make one crucial defensive play though. I don't remember who it was but someone was rushing towards goal and was on the baseline about 10' from the post with nobody there to stop him. Lampard came from nowhere to take the ball away and knock it back out of bounds. They got a corner from it but Lampard was the one who potentially prevented a goal. Was a really good play.

God the best part about those two was the fact that they thought their opinions were so superior to ours and they acted like we were impatient nitwits who have never watched soccer before NYCFC. Magnus at least could be cool. NYCFCfan was a douche.
Wait, I think you should re-evaluate your opinion on Magnus.

Also, Saunders definitely cost us a couple of corners because he is indecisive. He's the glaring weak link at this point.

I thought Lampard did have his best game for us.

Pirlo was excellent. Villa was possessed.

Mena has surely claimed the LCB role. Brillant owned the box.

And Jack Harrison never stopped running.

Mix must be gone. Damn.

TMac, as someone -ahem- me pointed out, is really poor outside the final third. He wasted several good breaks.

So after 18 games, RB has 9 losses - let that sink in - they have lost half of their games, and 9 losses is tied for the worst in the league. This is after winning the Supporters Shield last year.

When's the next RB town hall meeting when their supporters restart their RBOut ??? Pass the popcorn...

The thing that impressed me the most was their organization - especially in the second half. Although RBNY had a lot of the ball in the final third, they never got in many dangerous positions: forced everything wide and had numbers in the box to clear danger. I can only really think of two opportunities for RBNY (the shot in the first half that Saunders parried away and the header across the goal in the second half which if it was straight was a clear goal). Well done. Several other odds and ends:

-it was great to see how NYCFC handled the press, patience, triangles and technique. Well done. There were one or two moments where it all clicked with 1-2 passing and it was impressive.

-Pirlo was great today receiving with pressure on him. That fake and turn he does 3-4 times a game is amazing to relieve pressure and find the outlet is wonderful. Privilege to watch the Maestro.

-Lampard megged a guy today and passed to Villa for a great chance. I chuckled at that.

-Speaking of Villa, what a performance. He had Collin draped over him all night, but kept working, made defensive plays...also loved the nastiness with Felipe (who fouled everything in blue).

-Ref was actually not a factor. Loved the yellow for persistent fouling on Felipe and the red was right. Still, man does RBNY hack and foul.

-I loved that Harrison's flick was over the head of Grella. NYCFC's got skills too.

-Bringing in Matarrita as a late sub on the wing is unfair. Not only is he a top notch defender, but that speed on the wing...game changing sub if PV uses him like that.

-Mena's shot was clown shoes, if he squares he's got a player 1:1 with keeper...but he's a defender so can't rip him for it too much.

-Off the field, game started a bit more subdued but the entire crowd started to bring it, even my (dead) section got into it at the end.

Well done. Oh, for NYCFC's defense being a "tire fire", just shut out the Sounders in Seattle and last year's supporters shield winners. Something to build on here.

RBNY has played 10 road games, they have...5 points. 1 win (which we will not speak of), 7 losses and 2 ties. Oof.

Oh and both the RBNJ CB's are suspended for the next game. I know we don't really care, but oh boy.
No, I care.... I want them to build on their losing streak & turn into a complete dumpster fire.... it'll be very fitting for those DBags...

More should be made of just how dirty RBNJ plays. It's disgusting.

My wife, who doesn't know much about the game, honestly asked me, "is it legal for that guy to bearhug Villa every time we kick it toward him?"

So yeah, it was bad.

It will if PRO refs keep calling clean games and RB finishes with 9 or 10 players while losing.... it's when the refs are clueless and buy into the MLS is a physical league narrative that RB is able to get away with violent tackles.
