Below is roughly the plan where the stadium would fit in. It would be part of Phase 2 of the Willets Point development, Phase 1 is the only current phase that is ongoing and that would be the site remediation.

Police station right behind the supporters' section. Lol.

That's a little different than I had envisioned, but it works just fine. It's actually better, I think (which is why I'm sitting here at this keyboard and actual experts are drawing these things up).

What's the source for this, SoupInNYC SoupInNYC ? I'm trying to not get too excited, but if it's Related Co. I'm pouring another glass of Nighthawk Black right this second in celebration. :wineglass:

The source is NYC EDC, but I’m not sure if they put the image together or not.

I don't see it on their site but I'm just doing a quick search. I did find the original RFP, though. Phase 1 was supposed to be done now but they're just getting to the environmental remediation. Which is good -- nothing is (literally) written in stone yet.

There's definitely a deal to be had here if the EDC, Queens CB7, the City Planning Commission and Related are already all on board for the project. With CFG in the mix there's no shortage of capital. That can be doubly true if, say, Steve Cohen and the Mets buy out the Yankees.

It wouldn't cost much, either. Transfermarkt has us valued at a little north of $55 million, which puts the Yankees' stake at around $11 million. Cohen has that much in loose change between the couch cushions. Abu Dhabi throws that much at brunch. I'm sure the Yankees would insist on being recouped, too -- hey, it's the Yankees -- but if that's what it takes to make them go away the principals just may be willing to do it. The initial franchise fee was $100 million, so that's another $20 million on top of present value.

Sounds like a lot, but if the Yankees really do think of us as a pesky nephew who won't move out [from 2018: https://bit.ly/37igXCJ] it might be worth it. The long-term prospects of this team in its own stadium in the right location are excellent. The Chicago Fire just drew over 30,000 last night, for crying out loud.

I still am looking to gather a lot more details, but with some things I have heard, I'm very skeptical that a stadium can be completed there by summer of 2026.

But want to be clear, that is purely my speculation and it's something that I plan to be looking into a lot more.

Excellent, thanks Kenny Kenny .

So frustrating. I can see the deal among Related, CFG, the Mets, the EDC and the other stakeholders as clear as the back of my hand. It's a winner all around. Even the Yankees can walk away on the plus side.

Unfortunately, SoupInNYC SoupInNYC is certainly right about the timeline challenges, Were everything is signed by the end of the summer, maybe even the end of the year, there would be at least a chance of making it before the World Cup. But that's not going to happen. We're going to leak into 2023 unless GAL gets revived and the Yankees and MADD don't pull another fast one.

I think that $55 million is the potential transfer value of all the players on our roster, not the value of the franchise itself. Our franchise’s value has to be at least 10x that amount.

Re YS: First match of the year for me today. 2 observations. (1) The food variety / celebrity chefs is getting better. (2) The beer selection is getting worse.
Was hoping for Halal Guys today. No dice.

Had to settle for Marcus Samuelsson's joint instead. The spicy chicken sandwich was well spiced, but the fries had too much seasoning.

The beer selection is terrible.

I'm hoping warmer weather coupled with the start of the baseball season will result in more of the food/beer places opening up.

Citi Field next Sunday, with weather expected to be in the 50s or 60s. Totally looking forward to getting a Polar Burger™ or Shake Shack!

Correct. My bad. I think Sportico has the franchise valued at $655 million overall right now (at least that's what it was back in January) so I was looking at the wrong numbers. (It gets a little hectic around here with Grandma sometimes and I was a little distracted and got confused. LOL)

Thought that looked really low.

Anyway, you're right: buying the Yankees out entirely would certainly cost more than $30 million or so. If we accept Sportico's valuation -- and the Yankees certainly would -- their stake is more like $130 million. Which the right partner could still manage pretty easily, especially since that valuation would double very quickly once we have our own stadium.

I think I saw one estimate we'd be around $2 billion by the end of the decade. But that's contingent on us having our own park. And that's what really confuses me. I just don't understand what the Yankees are doing. All I can conclude is they just look at us in immediate cash flow terms and that's about it.

I don't think the Yankees or Steinbrenners hurt for cash flow. They're probably content to let the asset sit and appreciate and let it sell whenever it sells. Accelerating that just accelerates the cap gain tax.

anheuser busch (Inbev or whatever you want to call them) has a near-monopoly on the beer sold in Yankee stadium, it's either Budweiser or Budweiser disguised as craft beer (goose Island, Blue Point, Kona, etc.). It's a shame given how many great local breweries there are in NYC. I'm not optimistic but I really hope there are some local beers when we get our own stadium.
