Stadium Discussion

Interesting stuff. He is entirely correct that those 50 acres are a disgrace. Turning 50 acres of parkland into an asphalt covered lot that isn't used most days of the year was an abdication of basic responsibility by the state and city governments.

I like that he wants to use that space to connect the neighborhoods and provide easier waterfront access. I also like that he talks about including green space in the development. That said, I worry that these are dangling carrots meant to distract from his real interest, which is a casino.

How about this. Take 40 of those 50 acres and turn them into parkland. Then use the other 10 on parking garages. You can set the parkland up to accommodate picnics/tailgates before games and then let it be used as, you know, a park the other days of the year.

Hopefully World Resorts puts up enough fight against having 2 casinos within 8 miles each other, but then NY Gambling gives Cohen a sports book license which placates him and allows for a smaller footprint. They could actually place it in the McFaddens location, and he could have parkland and a wrigleyville within the 50 acres.

at least the field view of the supporter's section is used in the new stadium announcement page.

so yea, all very preliminary but it does look nice. hope the final product is just as nice if not better and not just a boring slab of concrete.

Came back to post this. I would imagine that wasn’t an accident?

The "Year Round Community Activation Space" looks like a small plaza with portable tables set up under small umbrella tents and that seems like the opposite of year round.

You really should have done more research on this. What you're looking at is the *summer* setup. I dug a little deeper and found a photo of the winter setup, so yes, year-round.

The very good Stuart95 on Big Soccer included this link in his daily MLS post: New York Mets’ Owner Wants Casino, Other Development, at Citi Field : CEG

Most of it is already known, but there are a couple newer things. It looks like the Jan. 7 listening session at Citi Field isn't quite a design charette, but it's a chance to weigh in. I also found the public transportation angle pretty intriguing.

Willets Point is starting to shape up as everything we were hoping for. And not for nothing, but I bet our park is going to be a knockout, too.
